Water-based, low odor, easy cleanup with soap and water. Preparation: All surfaces must be clean and free from dust, dirt, oil and contamination. Remove oils/resins from oily hardwoods and resinous softwoods. Sand to a smooth finish and remove all dust. Application: Ensure the product is well mixed. Apply evenly using light brush strokes, following the grain of the wood. Keep a wet edge and avoid overlaps. Use a good quality brush. Apply the first coat and allow to dry. On new wood dilute the first coat with 10% water. Sand again lightly to obtain the best finish. Apply one or two further coats. With the base coat of minwax already sealing up the pores of the wood it took maybe a couple of floz. of polyvine to cover all 9 of the large drawers that I was finishing. (They are about 24"x8" each) As it was drying I gently wiped with the foam brush any areas that appeared to have 'more' than they should to even them up, but I probably didn't need to. THIS STUFF IS AMAZING! The black walnut has zero and I mean ZERO shine! It looks like raw wood! I haven't used modern masters or any other 'dead flat' finishes so I can't compare, but am interested in what others who have have to say about it in comparison.
