The mechanism slides well. It has two open positions, one is with the blade in open, working position, the other is all the way out for changing the blade. Both positions hold firmly. Well made and works well. There is also a closed position for safety and transporting.

Good quality, perfect cut, ease of use.

I lost my other hobby knife and picked this one up on a sale to replace the one I lost. The handle feels a little cheapy/lightweight but the actual ergonomics was very comfortable for holding. The slide for the knife is ingenious, I like it versus a separate cap I have to keep track of like on my other one. I have yet to replace the blade so I'll probably amend this review once I experience it but as far as I can see, it seems pretty typical for this type of knife and I couldn't have to mess with the spring slide or anything too complex, but I'll find out when the time comes. In the meantime, very handy and very inexpensive.

I like this a lot, I don't worry as much that I'll cut myself picking it up because I can retract the blade safely when I finish using it and put it away. Works just like a normal xacto knife for crafting. I use mine to open plastic or tape seals, envelopes, etc. all small jobs that don't require a box cutter.

It drives me crazy that most hobby knives are sold without even a basic cap. This is perfect. I've used it for a few days with no trouble. The blades are sharp and easy to swap.
