- 286983 Metallic Floor Coating Kit-Silver Bullet

I applied the Rock-Solid Metallic Blue to a small craft room off my garage and it came out fantastic. The room is 80 sq. ft. and I used two kits (100 sq. ft. – 125 sq. ft.). My shopping list – two epoxy kits, GlobMarble roller cover, spiked sandals, squeegee, anti-skid grit, de-greaser, masking tape, plastic drop cloth, sandpaper, chip paint brush, mineral spirits, one gallon paint pail. 1) With a putty knife and sandpaper, I went over the floor and scraped up all the junk I could. I sanded out the rust spots and other discolorations. I didn’t do any filling or leveling. The floor was in pretty good shape. 2) I scrubbed the floor with degreaser and a long-handled scrub brush according to package directions. 3) I used one of the packages of acid etch included in the kit. Followed package instructions, except I didn’t use a watering can. I just dipped the floor brush in the bucket. Dried the floor for a couple of days with a space heater and fan. 4) I masked the walls with about a foot of plastic drop cloth all around the base. I used Frog Tape to make a clean line. It didn’t come out totally clean. I guess Frog Tape only works with latex paint. 5) I mixed up the first Rock-Solid kit using just the stir stick (no power mixing). I didn’t put in the anti-skid grit at this point. With the spiked sandals on, I poured out a line of epoxy along the first wall. Used the paint brush to get into all the corners and edges. Then, I spread the epoxy using the squeegee on a long handle. Then rolled with a long handled roller. (Because of the bad reviews, I didn’t use the roller cover in the kit). One kit covered the 80 sq. ft. fairly well, but there was quite a bit of concrete showing through. 6) Applying the first kit took about 45 minutes, then I immediately mixed up the second kit (still no grit). I went back to the first wall and poured the second coat right on top of the wet first coat. This time the squeegee was scuffing through to the cement, so I just used the roller. The second coat was pooling nicely and spread well with the roller. 7) I went around and pulled the masking tape out of the wet epoxy. Then, I used a saltshaker to apply the non-skip grit to the wet epoxy only in the high traffic areas. It didn’t come out super gritty, but it seems okay. 8) Cleaned up the roller frame and long handles with mineral spirits. Threw away everything else. Went around and touched up the wall paint. 9) It came out great, but there are definitely some blemishes. There are four or five pock marks where sweat off my forehead dropped into the wet epoxy. I rolled over them, but they still left a bubble. Wear a hat or bandanna. Also, when I was removing the masking tape, some sheetrock crumbles got into the epoxy. Some other small debris appeared mysteriously. Maybe it got pulled up out of the crevices. 10) I live in a condo and the neighbors complained about the fumes. Oh well. Otherwise, it was a great improvement!

Excellent product, durable, looks great. The amaretto metallic color looks much more coppery (in a good way) than I expected. The product came recommended from a friend and online forums. My buddy’s has lasted 4 years so far and still looks great with no sign of wear and tear or fading. Their experience matches my own. Budget for 80-85 sq ft per kit, otherwise you risk thin coverage. I tried a squeegee but found it would not apply even coats. Went with the supplied roller and it worked great. (Note, remove the lint from the roller beforehand by wrapping and unwrapping it with painter’s tape). Take your time with the prep and having a pair of spike platform shoes on hand in case you need to add a bit in spots while it is settling is crucial. Very happy with it and I have friends wanting to pay me to do the same to their shop floors.

I saw a lot of mixed reviews but after using the product I think that it is all about attention to detail and following the directions. For me, this product was the right choice and I get compliments on the floor all the time. The executive summary is: 1. It's a great product with a nice look (I used Silver Bullet) - take your time and pay attention to detail as you go 2. Double up on the quantity just to be safe (in my case, I used 3 boxes for a 1-car garage) 3. This material is translucent so consider an under-coat using one of the solid non-metallic colors - I did this and I think it was a good choice I do agree that the yield is a bit lower than expected but I also think it depends on how thick you put it on and since it is somewhat auto-leveling, how many low spots you have. I ended up having to run out to Home Depot (fortunately they also carry this) mid way through since I needed a third box to finish my 1-car garage. The only issue/complaint I had was with the roller. In retrospect, I would have tossed the included roller and gone for a premium one from Home Depot since the one that they have will shed some lint which is something you'll want to remove as you go...or just use a better roller. I decided to do this on a 1-car garage on some new concrete. I had poured the concrete a little less than a year previously and had done some leveling to fill in some low spots. Since I had read that some people had issues with the appearance, I decided to do an undercoat with the RockSolid light grey color (see the photos) to ensure that I had an even look. I think this also helps with the yield since like with regular paint, the first coat is always absorbed by the material to some extent. If you do this technique, keep in mind that you have to do the final coat within one day of the undercoat for the best adhesion so plan to do it all within a day or two total. It isn't well explained anywhere and even my asking a question here did not help but the technique to install it is really important for the final look. If you just roll it on then you will get lap marks and the coloring will be off. You have to do the swirling motion to create the look. It's a bit odd but after it settles and dries you will get a nice mottled appearance if you do the swirling. The key is randomness and to avoid any lines or whatnot. Having done a few other floors with the predecessor product (Epoxy based water and Epoxy base acetone), I wished I had this product for those jobs. I have no complaints (other than the roller) and honestly, I have to say that there are probably a lot of bad installs out there that probably should not be blamed on the product. Just sayin'. I'm happy with the results and it seems to be holding up nicely!

4 boxes to complete a two car garage. All four boxes consistency were different. The finish was just blue with alittle shimmer. I followed directions to the t, if I’m spending $400 for a permanent paint job, I’m going to be careful. All said and done I wish I had just got some cheaper epoxy and added my own mica powder to. Now I have a $400 garage floor that looks ok, but looks like I bought cheap epoxy and added mica powder to it. And as some others have said the roller that comes with it is crap. Out of four only 1 held up. The last one left balls of fuzz every where. Going to have to smooth it out somehow and add a clear coat. So I’ll then have a $500 garage floor. Honestly this product should be ban for sell. Ruins your floor, and you pay out the butt to do it.

For the dyi cost effective folks out there. Here is what I did for my 2 car garage that im sure a drunken monkey poured and finished. I had a 2 inch front border with rough edges plus a 4 section pour. I have a 6inch sander I knew my floor had paper, paint, unknown substances from the previous owners. I used my rolling stool to sand the whole thing. Filled in the 4 sections and smoothed the concrete border with the lowes patch kit. The instructions are kind of ok for applying paint after the 1st section it becomes easy to use. Cost below $8 3inch paint brushes $19 for 40grit sandpaper 2 25packs $20 epoxy floor shoes $20 push broom replacement head for cleaning and etching $20 purple power 2.5gallon at Walmart $650 for 5 kits of blue metallic $82 concrete patch at Lowes $35 extended paint roller arm $20 floor squeege $5 bucket for etching My total $879

As titled, great product but has some set backs. Especially if your garage is more functional and is used as a shop. If I was putting this in a showroom, easily 5 stars. I ended up doing my 2 car garage floor again after 5 years and I'll explain why. Maybe what I learned can help you! But I would and did purchase again. - Very slippery when wet as well as with sawdust. When I redid the floors, I added Rust-oleum's anti-skid. It only helped marginally. Don't expect a real gritty surface, however, this feels nicer on bare feet. Also, if you apply it too thick, the grit will settle, with not much on the surface as needed so keep that in mind when using the anti skid. It works better applied a little thinner. I tried to show the texture with closeup picture. - Durability. It will easily scratch when dragging something accross the floor. Drop a tool or metal object just right, the coating will chip out completely to the base. It's hard but brittle. - As specified in the guidance, do not allow excessive exposure to sunlight. Much of the area near the door that was exposed to sunlight when door was left open for long periods of time did not hold up well. Especially, those parts affected that would also sometimes collect water from rain or other source. That combo made the coating turn real light or even white and caused it to blister up and eventually pop or break off. This was the main reason I redid the entire floor and now we're more conscious about leaving the door up. Added picture of original product from 5 years ago that I had to scrape/peel up before recoating. I did use rust-oleum recoat primer here and all across the edges to help seal them down. I also scuffed up the rest of floor too. So all in all, really great looking. Everyone is impressed and asks about the floor. In some ways durable (like to hot tires, friction or rolling a desk chair on, various liquids and chemicals) and it cleans up well... but not good for a useable shop. You will have a beautiful floor, drop a 7/8" socket on it and chip the floor. That chip will then be susceptible to more chipping when you drag your sneaker on it. I've gotten used to putting old rugs and cardboard under jack stands and other garage items. This product is great for showrooms that aren't hit with excessive amounts of sunlight and garages that aren't really used for anything other than parking a car in and relaxing. I'm fairly handy, but you do have to be paying attention while working and do proper preperations before applying product. You have very limited time to work and it is not very forgiving. Not recommended for someone without any basic painting knowledge or just isn't handy. Coverage amounts were close to advertised, maybe didn't go quite as far.

A side storage room in our basement made the perfect location for a new wine cellar, but we weren't sure what to do with the concrete floor as it had a drain with a slight slope, and the floors probably needed grinding if we were to put down linoleum. This product came to the rescue and actually wasn't more expensive than what was available in local hardware store, and this color wasn't available locally at all. The variations in the color along with the metallic shimmer make the room, keeping in mind we've also got beautiful stone wallpaper and handmade oak shelving along with an antique oak cabinet that grace the room. We are grateful that we picked this solution. It also feels softer to walk on than the concrete, it's easy to keep clean, got rid of the concrete smell. Only caveat is it is necessary to do this on a day where you can open windows and run a fan as the fumes are pretty bad, all of which we did. Hope to post a picture later.

I was nervous about using this product based on some of the reviews and some YouTube videos. We have a cottage with concrete floors that sweat in the summer, which makes putting down flooring a nightmare. I wanted an epoxy type floor throughout the place, so we started with the kitchen. We ripped out 3 layers of existing linoleum and used power tools with scapers to get the big chunks up and even things out. We used a concrete etch and cleaner and thoroughly cleaned the floor and rinsed it. We didn't fill the few cracks, figuring it would bring some character to the floor. We let things dry overnight and then applied this product, in the cherry bomb shade. We added grit to the mix to keep itnfrim getting too slick, which was effective. I would recommend ordering 2xs the amount the package says it will.cover. Following the directions will end up with a thinner more translucent finished product while laying it in thicker makes it appear more marble and bowling ball like. We did not have problems with bubbles or oddities in the finished product. It is stout and thus far no chipping or peeling. It goes on super easy and perfect application is not needed. The product self-leveled over time and appeared balanced. The product itself does not have a strong odor. People complained about the smell but I couldn't figure out what they meant by it. Gasoline fumes and spray paint ate strong odors - not this. I'll report back immediately if there are any issues. Update- we are heading into our 3rd year with this on the kitchen floor and have ZERO issues. This product is wonderful. The floors sweat in summer, freeze over the winter, and have yet to show any cracks or issues. Highly recommend. Update: Headed into year 5 - zero issues.
