Is the CF card reader sturdy? Will the pins eventually bend like a lot of other readers?

No, same as all Chinese built equipment, looks good, cheap as hell. No better, or worse than ANY other, but electronics works better than most.

Does the card reader on this use USB 3.0?

It is USB 3.0 It has to be plugged on main board using a 20 pin plug to mate with (USB3.0) header
