Blocks Light, Look Wonderful, No Sound Reduction
I bought these to replace those tired vertical blinds found in 99% of FL condos. They provided 3 important improvements: First, they're far more attractive than beige plastic strips. Second, they don't rattle annoyingly when the window is open like those old blinds did. Third, they block outside light to the point that I can't tell if it's daytime or nighttime -- except for a trickle of light that leaks around the bottom/floor.The reviewers who say these curtains are not 100% opaque are quite correct. When there is direct sunlight hitting these, you can see very (very) faint light leaking through. However, my window is north-facing so direct sunlight falls on the curtains for maybe an hour on summer mornings and that little bit of light is inconsequential. There is no noise-blocking whatsoever with these curtains, and I can't imagine why the manufacturer would make that claim. (OK, yes I can.) If you have trouble with barking dogs, traffic, passing trains, etc., you should expect NO improvement by buying curtains -- any curtains. Now, if you have a "live" room with tile floors and hard walls, you might get a little bit of echo reduction inside, but that's another things. Adding a plush sofa or carpet would do the same thing. The dimensions are exactly as advertised, and I'm surprised so many people are confused. Remember, curtains need to be 2 or 2½ times wider than the window if you want them to look right. In my case, I bought six of these panels to cover a 12-foot sliding glass door, floor to ceiling. A neighbor kindly sewed them into two pieces -- for a few bucks. Some Internet reading suggested the curtains be 3-times wider than the window, and that would have meant buying 8 panels to cover my sliding glass door. In the end, six panels were just right for the twelve foot span. Had I used more, they'd have bunched up too much while open. There is some thickness to these, remember.Let me recommend also, for anyone who wants to replace his vertical blinds, don't bother with commercially made curtain rods. For one thing, I couldn't find any rods that would allow me to place the tops of these curtains within literally a millimeter of the ceiling. This is something you need to do if you want to black out the room. The darker the room gets, the more noticeable the small light leaks become. What I did was buy two 1/2-inch shelving support rods and one plastic joiner. It gave me exactly 12 feet of sturdy metal rod which I attached to the ceiling at each end and the middle. I used 3 sets of concrete screws to mount metal tabs with two thin washers -- through which I placed cable ties to support the rod. Cheesy, but invisible and entirely effective. Fifteen bucks later, I had floor-to-ceiling and wall-to-wall coverage. It looks terrific and, believe me, I'm not much of a handyman. My last comment would be that, yes, these curtains are beyond wrinkled when you remove them from their package. The wrinkles persisted even after washing, drying and ironing. By the way, don't iron these! I ruined one panel that way and I had re-order. Ugh.In hindsight, unpack them, run through the gentle cycle, put them up and let them dry. After a few weeks go by the last of the wrinkles will go away. The truth is, only you'll know they're wrinkled. Mostly, the impression is, "Wow! I never realized how ugly those verticals were!"

Everything we wanted!
From my wife Sarah: We had purchased blackout curtains from Bed, Bath & Beyond, and they let more sun in than my sheets we temporarily used after we removed & returned the Bed, Bath & Beyond curtains. After reading reviews on the different brands, we settled on these Absolute Zero curtains, and I'm really happy with them. Here's why:- They're total blackout curtains. Nothing gets through the fabric.- They look very nice. They appear to be sewn nicely, and they look great in my bedroom.- The fabric is more like a microfiber than velvet. As another reviewer noted, they're not really like thick movie theater curtains, so they're not overly heavy. They're just right in my bedroom.- They feel very nice.- The back of the curtain panels are lined with white fabric so they look good from outside. I believe I had read another review that said they're not lined with white, but mine were.I've had other blackout curtains that worked really well, but they were thick, and kind of like vinyl. They were quite ugly, but they were behind our decorative curtains. Still, when I opened the curtains, the blackout curtains would show, and it really wasn't nice looking. These look like regular curtains so we won't have that problem. We bought the dark brown panels. It's a deep, rich color. We plan to buy some sheers with either blue or turquoise in them to go in front. This is just a preference, and should lighten up the look. In fact you could use these without any other curtains in front of them and it would look nice. There's one drawback to these curtains. All the other blackout curtains we've had have had either magnets or velcro on the edges so that no light gets through the individual panels. These don't have that. We plan to add that in ourselves.

great product for the price
These really do blackout! No light gets through these babies. I have them in the dark brown color. I bought three of them for our 107" window that is directly opposite our large flat screen tv in the media/family room. I was worried when I saw the "velvet" description that they would look super dated and heavy looking. NOT SO! They look great, it's more of a suede fabric, not a heavy velvet. Don't get me wrong, these are heavy curtains and not light breezy summer curtains. But you just can't get black out curtains in light weight summery fabric. And my home is very much about bold contrast and clean looks. These fit right in.CON - You are going to HAVE to iron these. And they don't iron easily. They came out of the package with super super heavy folding lines. I kinda expected that. However, I didn't expect to have to spend like 2 to 3 hours ironing them and then them still have the "out of package" look.. but less obvious? After they have been hanging for a couple weeks they are beginning to hang out and gradually look less like they were in a package.I'm very happy with them, even with the ironing. (I hate ironing) They keep out light fabulously and they look great. There was one thing that kinda bugs me though. One of the curtains at one bottom end of it "rises up".. like.. it's slightly shorter than the other side. As they are hanging out it's getting better, but being anal-retentive I notice it. The other two curtains were just fine. I decided not to deal with returning that one curtain, but I'm sure it wouldn't have been a big deal.
