Love the natural materials
Students loved using this for loose parts, container/ dividers came out, so organization was lacking. Overall im happy with it though, very versatile

Creative inspiration
Present for 6 year old grandson who is in construction mode. He had loads of fun "building" random and creative structures.

Scale error on my part but kiddo loved it
It was smaller than I expected but the kiddos loved it. She just used regular school glue to make a fairy village.

An absolutely brilliant and unique craft kit
This craft set really is a brilliant concept that allows for a lot of creativity and provides the ability to make some really unique and eye-catching pieces. Though this was clearly designed with kids in mind, I ordered it for myself because I had not really seen anything quite like it before and figured it could be a lot of fun to work with. I was not wrong.Though the asking price of about $27 might seem steep for a craft kit, in this case the value is absolutely worth it. They provide 14 different styles of wood pieces, a full set of acrylic markers, two wood slabs with hanging holes and corresponding rope strands, and a whole bunch of glue dots. The amount of crafting that can be done with all this is significant, but what really stands out is the quality. The wood pieces have been worked to an ideal state, nicely sanded yet retaining the natural look. They are not all necessarily the same size, which should be expected from natural materials, but they seem to have done a good job of keeping it as close as possible. The one exception in my kit was with the little branch-like pieces intended as possible antlers. They provide enough for three sets, but one of mine was absurdly thin and spindly compared to the others, so not ideal to use as part of a pair. But I can hardly hold this against the kit, and considering this is all about creativity, the trick would be to use the oddball pieces in some other capacity.Likewise, the markers are unexpectedly good for being a part of a craft kit. The colors look absolutely brilliant on light colored wood. I don't even typically like working with paints and markers (I'm more of a crafter/sculptor) but was having fun playing around with these using one of the provided planks as a test board. You can see the picture I added and how the colors simply just pop and allow for a surprising amount of shading and detail. There is a very tiny bit of bleeding on the wood, but that's to be expected based on the material. What really impressed me was the black, which really is a true, deep black unlike you seem to get with a lot of standard markers. The pens themselves are of great design, with decent-sized tips that allow for good variance in size depending on the amount of pressure applied. Thin lines can be a little tricky but are absolutely possible. The caps click on satisfyingly and can be placed on the end of the pen while in use.The little sticky glue dots are actually way more useful than I expected. They are not a permanent solution by any means, though I think they are a decent option for kids to work with, especially if they are attaching wood pieces to one of the hanging boards to create a picture. Where they are useful for me is in planning and staging. The dots can hold together wood pieces while you are trying to figure out the final composition you want. Also, they work to hold pieces in place while the glue sets, though this can be tricky and is definitely more for experienced crafters and/or adults. They are definitely one-time use only, but they give you so many that it should take a while to run through them.As you can sese in my pictures, I did put together a little deer sculpture based on the design on the packaging and product page. In my opinion, it looks super cool. I do agree with other reviewers that it would have been nice if they provided a pamphlet of project ideas, similar to the deer and other concepts showing in the promotion materials. However, I hardly think the lack of this is worth a reduced rating. I feel the adult perspective demands instructions, but kid brains don't really need them. Children will easily use this kit as intended, to inspire creativity and make their own things, not just what they are told. Sure, there are kits out there specifically designed for an intended result, but there are also plenty of art kits that are primarily materials and supplies meant strictly for use with the imagination. To double down on the point I just made, I decided to make my own concept and came up with a simple little bear, which you can see in my pictures. I used the sticky dots to figure out the general design I wanted but also used them to hold the bits in place while the wood glue I used dried. I'm not as big a fan of hot glue because it doesn't bond as well, but that does mean I have to keep things stationary while the glue dries, which can take some time. One consideration is that there are only so many of each piece, with the larger ones reasonably having less. If you wanted to make the deer design, for instance, you could only make three total. This means you could end up going through the lower quantity pieces way quicker than the higher quantity, which could leave you less creative options in the end. But to keep reiterating the same point, since this is all about creativity the trick is to figure out what you can do with what you have. When you start adding in other materials like clay, paper, etc., the possibilities are really endless. So yeah, I highly recommend this, whether as a gift for a creative kid or, as in my case, just to inspire your own creativity. I am actually contemplating getting this set as a gift for my niece for Christmas this year.
