Awesome socks- updated Nov 2018
Nov 2018 update: My husband and I have done many Spartan races and training and truly depend on these socks.... my husband completed a trifecta this summer and SWEARS by them. We have had zero issues with ripping, holes, etc. including very rocky/muddy races at Blue Mountain, Tri-state NJ, etc. 5x a week training means we have a bunch of them on hand. I recommend not drying them in the dryer- ours have held up wonderfully. Great job Mud Gear! Will be getting more for us this holiday season for sure! Just ran another Spartan race in these. Feet remained dry and protected, as did my legs, through mud, sweat, water, rocks, and tears. These socks are the BEST. THANK YOU MUDGEAR! Update- still love them and am doing another race with them soon. Remain awesome socks! Bought these about a month ago in prep for the Spartan Race at Blue Mountain, PA. I bought them specifically to prevent any injuries from the rope obstacles (Traverse and rope climb) since they have the extra padding at the back of the sock. First, the socks are super comfortable. I've never worn compression socks before and I was really surprised at how comfortable they are. I began wearing them for training the day I got them to ensure they would work for the race. I ran a ton of miles in them on the road, trail running, through streams, up hills, tons of burpees.....and they performed great. They did not hold water and were not heavy after getting them wet. They did not allow fine particles (mud or dust) to get in around my feet. They never even slipped down during all the training. Race day was last Saturday. They performed extremely well. They proved their worth with the traverse and rope climb. With the traverse, I simply put my legs around the rope and pulled. My calf got a little warm from the friction but I had absolutely no mark whatsoever on either calf. I saw someone else do the same without these socks and got a terrible rope burn. The rope climb the socks helped when coming back down. The rope wrapped a bit around my leg but the socks protected me. Again, they also held no weight after getting wet, did not allow the little particles of dirt through to my feet even through the tons of mud and muddy water that was present, and were super comfortable. My feet and calves felt great after the race. I inspected the socks really well after washing them post the race. You can see a little bit of wear at the back but are otherwise in fantastic shape for the abuse I have put them through. I would highly recommend them and I'll be buying another pair or two.

No rope burns!!
These are great great socks for an OCR and will be recommending them to all my friends for upcoming races. For all those skimming the comments: These socks are awesome. No rope burns and great compression. Get em. During my first OCR I got a nasty rope burn on my Achilles area while doing the hanging rope bridge. It was one of the first obstacles of the race and the wound was a constant annoyance for the rest of the day. I also wasn’t too keen about wading into the water hazard obstacles later on. Solving this issue was my main concern when purchasing these socks and they preformed incredibly in this regard. During my last race, I zoomed through the rope bridge and was happy to see that there was no visible wear on the socks at all, and no rope burns on me. Based on this alone I would say they were worth the money, but wait, there’s more! These socks offer great compression. I wasn’t looking for this when I bought the socks, but man was I happy they had this. The Spartan Super I ran with these had a ton of hills to climb. I’ve had calf issues in the past and was slightly concerned when I saw the course but the compression gave me the support I needed to get through the whole race and forget all about my past injuries. My legs were tired after finishing the race, but never felt sore. Two days later and my legs feel pretty much normal (upper body is a different story). Unfortunately, I was not able to test how well these socks drained as all the water hazards were at the end of the course, which my team didn’t get to until after nightfall. Although the socks never felt soggy, they remained wet until I finished the race, like the rest of my gear. All in all, these socks performed incredibly. MudGear really put a lot of thought in when they designed these socks and I am looking forward to using them again in future races.

Run small.
Nice socks but they run small. I wear a 9.5 or 10 in women's and 8 or 8.5 in men's, so based on the mudgear size chart, I ordered medium. They were too small. I would have liked to exchange them but wasn't given that option in the return process. In fact, I wasn't even given the option to return, only returnless refund. I would have been happy to return. I hope the seller isn't getting screwed in this process. I'll give them to someone. I went ahead and reordered a large because again, they are nice socks, but 4 stars for the sizing.

Try 'em. You'll love ,em.
I have now run two obstacle course races, so I'm not an expert by any means. Take that for what it's worth. Anyway, what I can tell you is that out of those two races, I wore the same shoes, the same supportive undergarments, and the same shorts. I wore different t-shirts to each race and on the first race I did not wear MudGear Obstacle Race Compression Socks, whereas on the second one, I DID wear MudGear Obstacle Race Compression Socks. Can you guess what I'm about to say next? Probably, I suck at surprises. Anyway, my second race was longer and had way more obstacles, and I CRUSHED my time from the first race. (Neither time was what you might call "impressive" by any means, but still . . . ) Seriously though, my body was wrecked after the first race with blisters and mystery bruises everywhere. On the second race, with the socks, I didn't get a single blister and the mystery bruises below my knee were significantly reduced, especially the ones from an obstacle that appeared at both races, where you had to work your way horizontally and slightly downward across a cargo net without touching the ground - surprisingly gnarly bruises on the backs of my calves after the first race, none after the second. Anecdotal evidence, sure, but I'm thrilled! I was also pleasantly surprised at how well the socks shucked water. Didn't wear any socks in the first race because I'd rather risk a couple blisters than deal with waterlogged socks. Got burned the fist time and found these to solve both problems. Again, I'm a very happy camper . . . or . . . OCR runner . . . or whatever. Also, I just sort of love the compression. I've been caught wearing these puppies around the house by my wife and children (and mocked!), but they're just comfy. Love the way they hug/support my arches, and the compression on the calves is just . . . nice? I don't know if that's weird, but I like it. They fit MOSTLY as expected. Maybe a smidge large, but not large enough to cause discomfort, bunching, or blisters. Just great socks, from what appears to be a great company that is very much invested in the OCR experience, which is something that I definitely appreciate.

Glide-On Glide-Off, Stays Up, Top Quality, USA
Average male height, average weight, semi athletic, regardless if age, these athletic type socks are the absolute best of 10 different brands I have tried over the last several years. they are built tough, yet flexible & not stiff. Comfortable & non-toe squeezing with thick enough foot pad to wear alone yet not so thick that sometimes I wear an extra thin sock on top in special situations. Amazingly targeted support for different areas of the leg that are completely affective and noticeably leave my leg refreshed. no bruising or gapped compression areas. Nice & uniform refreshing support on foot, ankle and calf. They are long enough to fit a man's leg & comfortably stay up all day. Somehow the combination of weave and material in the socks keeps them up all day Hot or cold rain or shine no matter how active. They are also the easiest sock I've ever had putting on & taking off,..& don't squeeze my toes, feet or legs like sausage! I think there is a video & the key is pinching the heel area to first put on the foot portion and then simply pull leg portion in position unfurling the rest of the way up leg up and inch or two below the calf. it is a true & comfortable 15–20 compression unlike some socks which are loose as a goose or overly stiff and tight. Quality construction. The coloring and mix of subtle design features is a touch of class and very functional making it easier to put the sock on. take a few moments to follow directions and learn the trick. It will forever change how do you put compression socks on. Very unique to this sock tasteful design coloring in the heel and on the front of the sock that allow you to position the sock exactly facing front as you unfurl. No more getting your sock sideways on your foot or pulling it on your foot too far or getting it sideways on your calf and shin! No other sock I've tried has this excellent helpful feature. I never put the sock through the Dryer and instead allow them to air dry which protects the fabric and longevity. all other socks seem to dry out skin on my leg causing sock to collect leg dander that I can see when removing. This sock does not seem to cause that drying at all which allows me to wear the socks for a longer period of time without causing skin issues. There are other advantages too numerous to mention like a nice soft, tailored but secure top that helps keep the sock up without overly pinching veins behind upper calf under knee. The nice pre-curved shape it looks like the profile from the side of your leg and the curve of the calf. I'm sure this is One reason the sock stays up thru exercise or under long legged pants that often rub compression socks down from the knee. Last but not least, made in the United States of America in the mid-south. Great 25$ value! Bottom line: earns *****Five Stars*****

Highly recommend for mud and runs/obstacles courses
I purchased these for my first mud run that had obstacles. It was a 5k that had mud pits, swamp areas, deep streams to cross, tunnels and nets to crawl through and under, walls we had to climb, etc. (You we’re going to get dirty in this one.) I lost a show in one of the swampy mud pits and stepped in the mud with these socks. I retrieved mg shoe from the mud and put it back on. Even with mud and water all over my foot, I n we got a blister or any discomfort on my muddy foot. These socks are quality and have not torn and did not shrink after being washed (I did hang dry them). They provided the support and circulation that a good quality compression sock provides, plus extra comfort and cushion in the toe and heel. I would highly recommend these socks for mud runs or even longer regular runs. They are thinker than regular compression socks but still fit in my normal size tennis shoe.

Strong compression for heavy lifting
I’ve been buying Mudgear socks for years. The first pairs were great, but had so much compression you could barely get them on and off. Then I bought a pair that didn’t have enough compression. This latest pair is perfect. Strong compression, but no longer takes 5 minutes to get on and off.
