Working great with GPD Win Max 2
I've read so many mixed things about eGPUs, I was expecting to have problems. But after about 2 weeks now with this 3080 gaming box, I have nothing but good things to say. I have it paired with a GPD Win Max 2, which is pretty decent little gaming laptop already, but this gaming box puts it over the top.I love that it acts as a full USB hub so I only have to plug in a single cable to dock it. It's also much smaller than most eGPUs, and with water cooling it stays super quiet (my laptop fan is louder) and the temp usually hovers around 60C when gaming. The game I play the most currently is Overwatch 2. I'm running it at 4K with HDR and max settings ("Epic") through this gaming box, and it gets around 100 FPS with resolution scaling disabled. But I have a 144hz monitor so I let it scale dynamically so it stays at 144 fps while still looking absolutely beautiful.I was expecting there to be a small amount of input lag, since it's going over a cable. Sure, TB3 is 40gbps, but it's a *cable*, there has to be lag, right?? But there's none. It seems impossible and it's simply amazing. My laptop is running Windows 11 and I didn't have to do anything to set this thing up. When I plugged it in, Windows recognized it immediately and installed the drivers automatically. I literally did nothing. Things have come a long way!Highly recommend if you can afford it! Retail price is spendy but I got an open box one on Amazon for just ~1000. Make sure to check the "other seller" prices to see if you can get one at a lower price.

Great if you get it used
Had it about 2 weeks, working great so far. Plays all my games at 100+FPS on 1440p high/ultra settings with the exception of cyberpunk. Not quite sure why but it’s possibly a bottleneck from the thunderbolt 3 port. AIO works great and keeps the card running chilly while under heavy load, although it does get quite loud at times. The noise is more tolerable than my laptop GPU fan however, the gaming box fans reminds me of a constant humming. Got this used for < 900 and for that price I think it’s worth but not 1300+. Try to get it on sale.

Shockingly plug-and-play functionality
The plug and play is shockingly efficient and works right off the bat >90% of the time. Very happy with the output graphics quality as well, this eGPU runs games like Cyberpunk, Elden Ring and Witcher 3 without breaking a sweat.

Product turned into a brick after 40 days. Amazon only warranties it for 30 days.
After less than 30 hours of use I have a very expensive brick. Manufacturer doesn't answer the phone for warranty claim. I've spent 3 hours trying. Amazon says not their problem. I'm going to have to dispute the charge with my credit card company. Thanks for the customer service Amazon and Gigabyte.

Couldn't get it to work with any PC, but it sure looks nice and has a carrying case
Update:Beware buying from any third party or entity that charges you a restocking fee. I was charged an outrageous restocking fee, and they stated that the fee would have been the same even if the product was known defective. In my view that's essentially robbery. Here's the good, which earned 2 stars:* It's a great size and actually kindof portable* It looks nice, it's simple* Padded carrying case with handles is a great touch* It's fairly quiet, and for folks who can use them, it's liquid cooledHere's why I couldn't rate it more than 2 stars:* Out of a half dozen new laptops and 2 desktops, it didn't work on any of them -- most up do date Thunderbolt firmware & everything else you'd need, just didn't work.I'm a firm believer that this particular niche of technology just "isn't ready" yet for mainstream. It reminds me heavily of when USB hit the scene in the 90's, and how "plug and play" was more like "plug and pray". Thunderbolt is well established but the eGPU market seems very hit or miss, even on the egpu forums. Maybe in another 5 years they'll have streamlined the situation. For anyone reading this far down here's basically what happened. Followed the directions precisely, plugged it up and Windows recognized it as a device (as expected) which needed specific Nvidia drivers. So I downloaded those drivers per the guide. Drivers loaded up perfectly, reboot the machine. Nothing happened. I did find out later that you *have* to have some sort of display load on one of the ports for it to wake up, so I plugged up a monitor to the HDMI port. Doing so brought the thing to life, and for 5 whole seconds, I actually had a spare screen. After 5 seconds the driver would de-activate, the screen would be frozen, and that was it. No error, just acted like I'd unplugged everything. No errors in system logs.As the official Gigabyte driver is much much older than the current Nvidia drivers, I presumed it was a very specific driver for the purpose of the eGPU, however, in talking to people who have this product they state they use the generic Nvidia drivers just fine. So I tried those. Same results.Tried it on brand new out of the box laptops, same issue. Tried fresh copies windows 10 and 11 on a couple of computers just out of curiosity. Same issue. Thunderbolt firmware up to date on everything. Tried 4 different TB cables, including 2 new out of the packaging. No dice.Well, best of luck to anyone else, it does seem hit or miss.

Great Graphics Performance Notebbook CPU May be Bottleneck
This external card performs very well on GPU intensive benchmarks like Superposition. I real world gaming, it also performs well but can be limited by the notebook CPU so that the overall performance is no better than a lesser card. I also am a little worried about how often the drivers are update for this card/box. Right now the latest drivers are dated 11/21 and it is now 6/22.
