## Description

Steven Mead says, "Superior design and performance have seen these springs become the must-have accessory for all euphonium, tuba and baritone players." The four stainless steel springs are covered in a thin fluoropolymer plastic tubing giving a completely silent action. Each valve spring is numbered (1, 2, 3, 4) and has to be inserted into the correct valve. Each one looks slightly different, but feels remarkably consistent to play with no rebound bounce on valve action whatsoever, allowing for smoother soft playing and without a doubt more precision and speed with faster music. These Mead Springs (the original Mead Springs) are for compensating euphoniums and Eb tuba/bass. Additional models for euphonium and baritone are also available through Louisville Music Company.

    Steve Mead is my mentor

Springs are not a topic that creates much fervor for discussion, but I have found this Steve Mead set to be an improvement over the originals for my new euphonium. I broke in the cylinders and pistons with the original springs, and when these springs arrived the difference was subtle but obvious...much less sticking, and very nimble. A little on the expensive side, but I think worth it over the years.

    Great springs, but slightly overpriced

These are great springs, but for what they are worth, they are overpriced. Each spring has a different tension for the strengths of each finger. The last springs I had where not plastic coated, so they rattled when I play. Now I don't have to worry about that anymore. These have pretty strong tension so they take time to get used to. Overall great quality.

Expensive springs, but a definite upgrade from the stock springs as they are much quieter. They do feel noticeably firmer, but this has not been a problem for me. These fit nicely in my Mack Brass compensating euphonium (a clone of the Yamaha 642).
