Excellent substrate
This substrate is easy to clean and holds humidity well for my ball pythons. It can be tough to break up when you first open it to use. Once water is added, it's easy to fill the enclosures and it's easy to spot clean. It does not have a strong smell.

The Amazing Reptichip!
I have an ARS rack with 20 pretty large tubs, it's an ARS-70 series and ARS-80 series stacked on top of each other. I used a block of Reptichip and a block of Growit, the Growit seemed like it was the left over trash that was sorted out of the Reptichip bedding! There's no comparison at all. Needless to say I won't be getting any more Growit even though it was less expensive. I just ordered two more blocks of Reptichip. So far all my snakes just love it. I tried aspen and it was a mess, the snakes were getting it in their mouth when feeding, and it didn't hold the moisture and would mold very fast. Plus it didn't remove odors hardly at all. This Reptichip stuff is amazing, one block will hold about five gallons of water and expand to probably 3x - 4x the size of the original block. I've heard reviews that people only spot clean once a week and change it out once every three months! I've tried aspen, newspaper, paper towels, etc.. This stuff is by far the best I've used so far, you can't smell the snake poop, holds moisture like you wouldn't believe, and seems like it will last a long time. It may be more expensive up front but seems like it would save you in the long run. I used to spot clean every day with newspaper and paper towels. With this stuff I spot clean once every three days, seems like once a week would be sufficient. Makes keeping snakes so much easier. Now instead of cleaning snake tubs every day I can pull them out and play with them!

Great substrate
Reptichip is my go to brand for substrate. The quality is great and I like being able to buy the breeder block size. It's easy to use, just add water and it expands. It holds moisture well for humidity control. I use it for ball pythons.

Nothing Better for Ball Pythons
Lasts forever, mold/mildew resistant, smells nice, easy to use, and my python seems to love it. I keep a few of these on hand and one block fills a massive enclosure. Highly recommended for snakes. Just make sure any prey items don’t get substrate stuck to them and you’re golden.

The BEST reptile substrate
I have been using eco earth for awhile for my ball pythons and blue tongue skink. However, a few months back I attempted to use the zoo med forest floor bedding mixed with eco earth and all of my reptiles contracted mites from it that wouldn’t go away for months. This is the first substrate my reptiles have been put on since having a mite infestation and I cannot day enough good things about it. Since I have reptiles that need a higher humidity, this substrate was perfect! It held a very high humidity for about a WEEK after I put it into their enclosures! I now have to spray it about once a day in order to keep the humidity high enough, but that is still much less than I would have to do if my reptiles were still on eco earth. My reptiles absolutely love this bedding as do I. It provides a nice smell, great texture, and is not dusty. The substrate was very easy to expand as well and makes a LOT of product for a great price. I would spend much more on eco earth trying to fill all of my enclosures when this one block filled both of my 20 gallons, and my over five foot vision cage. I HIGHLY recommend this product to reptile keepers, especially if you struggle with keeping humidity up. This was my first time purchasing this and I will be buying this from now on!

and the whole block was wasted. I would make sure to read the directions ...
This is a no nonsense product. Compressed coconut fiber to reduced wasteful forms of packaging, a single, semi-gloss sheet of paper to advertise it and some heavy duty plastic wrap to top it off. Sustainable? Yeah to an extent it is. I can't speak for this individual manufacturer but as an Agricultural Scientist by trade, I will say there are ways to make it sustainable. If we're to be honest, coconut husk is mold resistant but not mold PROOF (There is a difference, visit USDA.gov to learn more) Last block I bought I could not dry quickly enough, and the whole block was wasted.I would make sure to read the directions carefully. "Lightly spray" not, "Completely drench".Just enough to break stuff up. It requires a little elbow grease but someone who owns reptiles or any other animal that can live on this substrate should not be unfamiliar with a little work when cleaning cages properly. Is it clean? Yeah, it's not bad. When you break it up it will create dust. LOTS.LET'S BE HONEST, any naturalish substrate you buy will have dust. Nature of the material, unless you use sheets of heavy paper or paper towels.IS IT SAFE? Sure it is. Granted, some animals are more susceptible to subcutaneous inflammation (redness on surface of the skin) than others, so keep a careful watch. I have noticed my Reticulated Pythons exhibiting some inflammation after spraying their cages down in the morning and evening. With adjustments to water amount and heat, this can easily be resolved. As someone who has performed research with reptiles on a collegiate level I like this substrate. It does well but 8 times out of 10 you'll find any other brand of coconut husk to work just as well. But the compression, sustainability and eye for reducing costs of packaging just shows good business practice.Mainly why I buy it.....Also relatively inexpensive.

Breeders choice for ball pythons
Smaller chunks than Freedom Breeders Coco Blox but Reptichip doesn’t mold out in my experience. Great product overall. Fast shipping too.
