Rugged and durable
This is the second set of locks we purchased for our church ministry after being burglarized. The previous padlocks were cut so this will make it much more difficult to cut. The quality of Master Lock stood out and it's also designed for outdoors.

Definitely worth the money to deter quick thefts
Have been using this as my gym lock (overkill, I know - but as I got my laptop stolen, I'm done screwing around) - it fits with very little clearance left in the lock hole (about the width of a human hair), so its a perfect fit. You cannot move it around or yank on it very easily. It is incredibly heavy and rather intimidating looking. The brass armor shroud around it is incredibly sturdy and does a good job of making life difficult for anyone with a bolt cutter. The boron alloy shackle is also much higher quality than the standard locks you find on the shelves, with a very true metallic feel. The combination are definitely on the stiffer side - they will not easily glide like tiny padlocks. In 3 months, I have not experienced the "sticking" issue, but the tumblers definitely prefer to be turned one way, which is not really a big deal for me.It is important to note that the lock only opens one way, and the dials will get easier to move with use, but they are STIFF. Personally, I like it as it reinforces the whole tough look of the lock. The rubber bumper, which I presume is to keep the lock from scratching whatever it is rubbing against, is flimsy and I lost it on the third use. Again, not a big deal.No padlock is going to be a foolproof solution in the world of sledgehammers, shotguns, and bolt cutters - but this intimidating looking lock definitely fits the bill to help persuade a would-be thief to perhaps move onto an easier target - (or at least convince them that bringing giant bolt cutters to a gym is too risky).

It works! I'd like to see how a thief could get past this without serious power tools.
Potential intruders will cry when they see this. It is designed with extended collar protection that rises almost to the height of the shackle. Making it impossible to approach with a bolt cutter. It is heavy. It is solid. I got the combination version. I'm prone to losing keys. It may take a moment to get the shackle to latch. Just took some practice. I didn't know what I was doing ( never seen one before) and it took 10 minutes from instructions to full deployment.

Very effective but do have a lifespan...
I go through about 2 of these a year to lock up my gates on my business. Love that you can easily set your own combination. Love that it's next to impossible for bad guys to get a bolt cutter to the shackle. These are outdoors in the weather in Oregon. They seem to seize up after about a year of every day use. Kind of expensive for that. But still worth the extra security.

Solid built lock
Great solid built lock. Using it on my outdoor shed. I love the combo on the bottom of the lock.

Careful when resetting the combination.
Very secure. Impressively strong and heavy. When you set a new combo be sure to follow the instructions to a "T", because if you goof up it will have neither the old combo nor the new and you will not be able to open it. None of the self-help suggestions on both the Amazon website and the MasterLock website worked. So I had to return it for a refund. To be fair, I have another of these that I've had better luck with. Works fine. Really strong. But when I set a new combo on it I am really careful!

certainly not needing a massive lock like this. i brought it home today after having ...
i put this lock on our gate at our ranch... it is big and impressive at first look. but it has a rubber bumper that quickly came off, and has a rubber flap that covers the combination and i suppose offers some type of water protection. that was flimsy and fell off after a week, and was more of a nuisance than protection. then the combination stuck. i had to resort to a screw driver to turn the combination a few times. then the large steel "protectors" that provided a shroud over the lock that you can see in the photo made it VERY difficult to get the chain hooked and locked. it would fit only a thin chain... certainly not needing a massive lock like this. i brought it home today after having it out on the gate for about a month. it became a hazard wondering if it would work today or not. sadly, i think its too late to return it amazon. I can use it for a good paperweight, but its a BAD lock. its cheaply made.. I guess the people who wrote the good reviews on this lock were either very lucky, or they wrote the review a day after they got it before all the defects became apparent.
