Works On All Fabrics, Even Outdoor Gear and Tents
I know the ingredients are formulated mainly to resist stains, but I use it on a tent rain fly. I like ceiling the seams and then spraying it with Scotchgard. It's gentle enough that it doesn't hurt the material, and it's super easy to apply. You can tell from the photos I took that it dries completely. I took up before photo and then after photo to show what it looks like dried. It doesn't change the appearance of the fabric at all. I had enough left over to treat a couple of chairs on the deck, and the cushions stay pretty dry too. Scotchgard is famously effective, and that was my experience with it treating my outdoor and rain gear.

Long time Scotchguard user
I've bought some more expensive sneakers lately and I need them to last. Only one pair is machine washable so I thought I'd try this Scotchguard spray. One bottle did 6 pairs of shoes with multiple soaking sprays. It didn't affect the appearance of any of my shoes. Spray nozzle sprays evenly and gives a nice, heavy ,somewhat soak to my sneakers. It depends on how much you want to apply is my point. If you want heavy then apply heavy, if you want a light covering it works very well at light sprays also. I hike dusty, dirt trails with my dog and I need my sneakers to be water repellent with morning dew, or wet grass after rain. Ivalso need it to repel the dust from the trails. So far, so good. It is not odorless. There is a chemical smell during and after spraying. Even after it dried a few days later there is still the chemical smell, BUT, I have to press my nose up gmagainst the fabric to smell it, otherwise it is not noticeable. My neighbors probably thought I was weird because I kept checking for the chemical smell after I sprayed, and intermittently while drying....lol. You ABSOLUTELY have to spray outdoors or in a very well ventilated area and not in a basement near furnaces, please! The fumes ARE flammable, says so on the can. Scotchguard is a very reputable brand and I'll keep using their sprays. I've used their furniture guard spray and it works extremely well also.

Effective water REPELLANT (7/10) at 3 coats if properly applied.
I have applied many brands of water repellant products over the years. This product does pretty well when applied and dried x3 coats for outerwear shells. I apply a 4th coat to the seams as well. It isn't waterproof, its water resistant. A silicon based product will get you closer to waterproof but won't be breathable. This does exactly what I bought it to do, the smell is more manageable compared to other brands. You can re-seal one adult size (shell) jacket with ABOUT ¾ of a can.

Best waterproofing for Timberland boots
This stuff is the best product I have ever used to waterproof Timberland boots. Water just beads up and runs off the leather. It also adds some stain resistance to the nubuck leather. The leather seems to have a nice vibrant color when applied to it.

Good as an additional layer of protection, but won't make older cushions like new...
Used the WHOLE can on my outdoor patio cushions. Followed the directions, multiple layers to ensure good coverage. The one can did cover quite a few cushions (16 in fact). My cushions are older (10 years old) and were previously water proof but over the years, that protection has worn off. The most affected with the cushions you sat on (versus the ones you leaned your back on). So the spray did well at protecting the back cushions, but did nothing to prevent water from seeping into the cushions you sat on. So I would argue that the spray may work as an additional protector on newer cushions, but if you have older ones like I do, this spray doesn't make your cushions like new. Doesn't add some thick layer of sealant to prevent water from getting in.

Works Surprisingly Well, But the Smell is Brutal!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I was a bit skeptical at first, but Scotchgard Outdoor Water Shield has seriously impressed me. I used it on my outdoor cushions, a canvas tent, and a few backpacks, and so far, it’s repelling water like a champ. Rain just beads up and rolls off instead of soaking in, which is exactly what I was hoping for. Pros: ✔️ Actually Works! – After applying, I tested it by spraying water, and it literally rolled right off. My outdoor furniture has stayed dry even after heavy rain. ✔️ Easy to Apply – Just spray an even coat, let it dry, and you’re set. No crazy prep work needed. ✔️ Versatile – This works on a ton of different materials—fabric, canvas, and even some softshell gear. Cons: ❌ The Smell is STRONG – This stuff stinks. I expected a chemical smell, but it’s way more intense than I thought. It lingers for hours, so definitely apply it outdoors and let your items air out before bringing them inside. Final Verdict: If you can tolerate the smell, this is a game-changer for waterproofing outdoor gear. It’s easy to use and highly effective—I’ll be using it on all my outdoor fabrics from now on. Highly recommended!
