Nice to have this many tools available in such a small package. Very convenient. The tools are super sharp right out of the box, typical Flexcut quality!!

To be honest I do not use these much as I am more of a knife only whittler. That said I have used the whole set and found them to work great.

During a quick shopping walk through at Lowes I picked up a wood carving magazine. I have always like woodworking of any kind but always wanted to try and learn carving. While reading the magazine and learning more about wood carving I realized I needed some tools to start with. The FlexCut tools are a little expensive but I wanted to start out with some good ones so I would have the best chance to succeed. They are really great! Like I said, I am a beginner but these tools seem to make it simple. With this set they sent a stamped piece wood that I started carving on the day I got them and a simple but detailed instruction booklet explaining cutting techniques, angles to the wood grain, and how the different tools are used for different cuts. Great information for beginners and even intermediate carvers. The tools were just like what you see in the pictures. They seem to be made from high quality materials and are polished to a razor sharp edge. Cutting with them has been effortless and actually simple. It has been a really positive and exciting learning experience and I look forward to the future hobby of wood carving because of my start with these tools. The tools are sharp, sturdy, and they interchange with the handle quickly and easily. The handle is comfortable and fits nicely in your hand. And with the supplied pouch it all rolls up in to a small, organized space. The next thing I will purchase from FlexCut is the chisel sharpening tool(not sure of it's name) and compound. To anyone who is serious, I would recommend this as a very worthwhile and project capable set of tools.

These are excellent tools for the money. All but the smallest gouge was razor sharp. You could spend a lot more money and not get better.

A great starter set

This Carving Kit is awesome! I haven't been carving for long, about a year and a half with a flimsy set that kept breaking if you tried to carve anything more substantial than aspen, and would even break in aspen. On top of that, I really didn't know what I was doing, what the different tools are for. This set has fixed that! I got them for my birthday and was instantly impressed with this set. It comes sharp, but it also comes with a learning project and book that walks you through each tool and how to use it. It discusses the art of relief carving, and how to work with the grain of the wood. The pouch is nice for storing your tools too, which are sharp enough you don't want a kid grabbing hold of them. This also makes it easy for taking with you wherever you might want to go with them. If you don't have a set of clamps for holding your project firm you will want to buy some. You don't want to hold your project in your hand as you will cut yourself doing that. Irwin makes a nice set of bar clamps with hard rubber faces too keep from marring what they hold. These can be adjusted with one hand. I have found they work real well for this and the practice project.

I had been wanting to get into carving for a while and I figured the best chance of success was to start with quality tools. I received this as a gift and after using them for just a short amount of time I am extremely pleased. They arrived sharp....really sharp. The steel appears to be quality with very nicely honed edges. The included instruction manual and carving block are better than I anticipated offer a nice primer to the craft. Using the various tools could not be easier. They cut like a dream and if you've ever used sharp chisels to cut wood then you know that satisfying sound they make as they cut through wood fibers. There is something soulful about it. Swapping the different tools in and out of the handle is a bit bothersome though and I can see making some dedicated handles. The only negative I can find is the tool roll. I guess I figured it to be leather but is instead a synthetic, almost plastic, material and when rolling up the tools it is possible that they can ding against each other. I still feel that this doesn't detract from the kit in any way.

These are higher quality carving tools, using them briefly I could tell the difference between these tools and less expensive ones right away. You get what you pay for. Comfortable handle and you get more bang for your buck with the interchangeable blades. They seem quality and made of good strong steel. The tool roll is great as well. I am happy with the purchase and I look forward to doing my first project that is included in the set.
