Excellent review of digital system design with embedded systems programming.
It needs to be said that Dr. LaMeres is an excellent instructor. I have never attended one of his classes but have watched his YouTube video coupled with reading his book(s) cover to cover. Also, note that there is a 2023 edition of this book (newest ed. as I write this) and you can either purchase from Amazon or from Springerlink. This review references the newest (2023 edition.)Chapters 1-3 review digital systems from the vantage point of what makes up a microcontroller. From chapter 4 on, the Texas Instruments MSP-EXPFR2355 Launchpad evaluation board is used to learn, first, assembly programming, of the TI MSPFR2355 microcontroller, and following assembly language programming, C programming the same platform. Along with the book, you can find Dr. LaMere's YouTube videos and the two media (Book + YouTube videos) like you are taking his class in person. Dr. Lamere's instruction style is as if you have a good friend sitting next to you explaining the material. I learned digital systems and microprocessors from a professor that Dr. LaMeres reminds me of, and was able to continue on to IC design (8051 microcontroller derivatives at a large corporation as well as work my way into a position designing and programming embedded systems. So, why did read this book? It helped refresh my memory on the very minimum design elements to implement a microcontroller design that I am working on for an FPGA as well as gave me a quick introduction to the TI MSR microcontroller family.
