Beware the Price Whiplash!
This review is in reference to Tin Star's Cultured Brown Butter Ghee only. (I don't eat anything that might have detectable milk traces). I'm on my third jar, and the color of the product has varied jar-to-jar from a bright yellow to an almost dark khaki shade. Excellent taste, despite the odd color range. Pretty sure these are normal variations because the product is real food and my jars are from different batches. In all three jars, the flavor has been deep, with a faint caramel overtone, and maybe just a hint of smoke. (No, I don't think anybody added any flavor enhancers, I just mean the taste suggests these things. You know, like notes in wine. ) The ghee is obviously clean of both gluten and casein, as I have no reactions to it. Yay! And I'm pleased that there are now at least two good producers of casein-free ghee available. Go Tin Star!Edit 09.03.2017So, I write a good and honest review and the next thing that happens? They raise the price of a jar by $10. Ok, well, now you cost more than your competitor and give slightly less product to boot. -1 star for the drastic price jacking, or lousy A/B testing or whatever that was. Your product is still good, but so is the competitors and now they're less expensive than you. Bye. Lots of luck.

Good product
Original review: I enjoy the flavor of this product, as does about half of my household. I like the mission of the company too, with grass-fed products and specificity about lactose content, etc.I do not like that I have received jars that were less than two months from expiring (though admittedly this may be the fault of places like Thrive Market and Amazon), and - even more importantly - that sometimes there is an empty spot in the center of the jar where it appears that about a quarter of the product is missing. Like, if you dig down about an inch from the top, there is just a gaping hole in the middle of the ghee. This isn't often visible from the outside, but seems like a great way to not get what you pay for, and this product isn't exactly cheap. If it continues, I'm going to consider switching to another brand, despite that I would really prefer to stay with this product line.UPDATE:After the comments below I happily updated my review to 5 stars and would definitely recommend this product.

Good Ghee
So I've been using Ghee for the past couple of years and have tried numerous brands. My kids and I have even done side-by-side taste tests comparing the different brands and the Tin Star brand wins hands down. The aroma is very "nutty" and the flavor is very "buttery", not a great description but the best I can come up with. There is some sort of separation that leaves some brown stuff on the bottom of the jar but it doesn't seem to affect the quality. Tin Star Brown Butter stays fairly solid at room temperature while some other brands that I've tried are runny/liquidy - I prefer the more solid consistency of Tin Star. I use ghee sparingly due to the cost, (and all the ghees are pretty expensive), but the flavor is just so much better than regular butter. I use Tin Star Brown butter for cooking eggs, and any vegetables that I fry which really adds a nice touch of flavor over regular butters. I give four stars on Value for Money due to it's high cost relative to regular butter. If it was cheaper I would probably be less stingy in what I use it for thereby using more. Flavor, five stars, best tasting Ghee that I've tried and I've tried many. Overall four stars due to expense, maybe if more people buy the product the price will come down and I'll use more of it. In summary, Tin Star Brown Butter is the most flavorful ghee brand that I've tested and is a staple in my pantry.

So disappointing--virtually no flavor, grainy texture, and very separated
I have had good experiences with a different brand of brown butter available on Amazon and tried this one primarily as the price was less (similar price but you get more)--and based on the reviews. I am incredibly disappointed as this has a hint of the right smell of a what brown butter should and can be though this not only was a liquid mess when I opened it with separation and some leakage but also little flavor at all. I wrote to the seller in response to the email they sent and shared the leaky jar, the flavor issues, and the texture issue and never heard back so I am now posting this reviews. I have now tried to refrigerate it, which they say you can, and then let it go back to room temperature and nothing fixes this. The texture is grainy, it's very, very runny and hard to work with, and still has virtually no flavor... just calories. This type of purchase is a bit of a splurge though warranted if it really imparts flavor and quality to a dish--and this did not. I am going back to Black & Bolyard available on Amazon! The flavor, aroma, and consistency are far superior.

Did not work with my dairy allergy. It tasted like any other ghee, just not "brown butter."
I reacted to this like I do to any other dairy product. It claims to be 100% free of casein and lactose from being cultured, but maybe it wasn't cultured enough. I don't have a life-threatening allergy either, but it's unfortunate I could not tolerate it.Also, it did not taste or look any different than regular ghee, and I did not taste the "brown butter" taste that was described as "nutty." When a family member made brown butter ghee, it was actually a darker color and was described as being a different taste. However, for anyone who can tolerate ghee and is looking for a good tasting one, I don't think this will disappoint. It is just not special from other ghees in taste to me, and it did not work with my body.

I learned about it when doing a Whole30 as a great addition to bullet proof coffee
Ridiculously delicious. It has a brown butter, slightly caramelized flavor. I learned about it when doing a Whole30 as a great addition to bullet proof coffee. It's also a tasty alternative to icing--no sugar! Melted on a toasted bagel, this brown butter ghee will make you dream happily about food all day long. You decide whether that's a good thing. This is a fairly pricey food item. It might be a good "reward" to work for instead of a doughnuts.
