Q: I hate to judge a book by it's cover but these ice cleats just don't convince me. Are they effective on any icy surface, especially on black ice?

I was skeptical as well, but I bought them because they were my only option locally. I was happy to find that they work on any ice, period. I wear them ice fishing, which features a 1 mile walk pulling a 60 pound sled across various types of ice to get to a good spot. Keep in mind that these aren't glue, though. I can run on the ice with them, but it's still possible to slip - especially in ~3" of new snow on ice. The snow is just deep enough to fill the cleats, then you've got snow on ice.

Q: Do you need to size up for boots?

I was also concerned about this as I wear a men's size 8 (small) and I also have size 8 Columbia boots - one pair that are ankle height and one pair for deep snow. My small size Yak Tracks fit on all three pairs. In fact I went for a walk yesterday with the Yak Tracks on the largest pair and I walked through deep snow, on bare tar and cement and on packed snow/ice and straight-up ice and they worked well on all surfaces and did not work their way off or even close to it. My big concern now is will the Yak Tracks stretch out so much they will be too big for regular shoes come late spring ice season? Other than that I will say that I've worn them to work and while they are great on ice, they actually make walking a lot dicier on high quality outdoor cement and tile and they are very treacherous indoors on tile and terrazzo type surfaces.

Q: Should i use large or medium size to put over Sorrel boots? (Boots are size 10)

I'd go with a large. (I'm assuming this is a Men's size 10) The bottom of a Sorrel usually doesn't need extra traction... are you sure you need them?

Q: Are they sold as a pair? Or do I need to order two?

They are sold as a pair. And they are wonderful!
