I have seen a photo of a cat who tried to get in or out of one and got stuck as the hole was too small and only the head and on leg fit thru then poor kitty got stuck. Obviously that could have tragic results. I have one for rats, but I would not recommend this for cats unless your cat is VERY small and it would be for supervised play in case kitty got stuck. You have to remember, like most stuff, it looks larger than it is in the photos advertising it. Just buy the balls and put them in a larger cardboard box with cat size openings for safe & cheaper cat fun

Would this be suitable for sugar gliders?

I'm not sure what a sugar glider is. However I do not like this product. My ferret knocks it over very easily and then the balls go everywhere. By the time I get it all picked up, my ferret has lost interest. Unless I am sitting next to it holding it then it's not fun for my ferret. Hope that helps.

I have rats, and the Marshall stretchy tunnel thingy. They have already chewed a few small holes in it but I don't care. Would this be durable enough?

My ferrets have chewed on it a little and haven't done damage really. But this was also only on the ends. They don't seem to try and chew from within the tunnel, but it could be different for rats as well.Your best bet is to give it a try and see how it goes. It's only $20 so it's not too much and if they like it, it's fun to watch them play in it.
