couldn't live up to the hype
🌟🌟🌟🌟The main reason I picked up this book was because it was compared to Sally Rooney's works, and let me tell you, the cover was absolutely stunning. I was really drawn to the concept and understood why people were making the comparison. However, I found the execution to be quite disappointing.Firstly, despite the title suggesting a focus on Cleo and Frank, the story also revolved around a bunch of other characters. Normally, that wouldn't be a problem for me, especially with Sally Rooney's books where even the side characters are captivating. But in this case, I just got bored with all of them. Now, let's shift the focus to some positive aspects. While the book fell short for me overall, there were a few redeeming qualities that I appreciated. The author's writing style had moments of beauty and elegance, particularly in descriptive passages. There were times when the prose managed to evoke a strong sense of atmosphere and emotion, which added depth to certain scenes.Additionally, the book touched on some interesting topics. It explored themes of love, identity, and the complexities of human relationships. Although the exploration of these themes lacked depth and felt superficial at times, there were still moments of insight and thought-provoking observations. The author's attempt to tackle these issues deserves some credit. However, overall, the book failed to live up to the hype and the comparisons to Sally Rooney's works. The characters felt selfish and immature, and the story lacked the depth and consistency I had hoped for. It left me wanting more, as it failed to delve into the intriguing topics it introduced. In conclusion, while the stunning cover and intriguing concept initially drew me in, this book ultimately fell short of my expectations. It had its moments of beautiful writing and touched upon interesting themes, but it failed to deliver a cohesive and satisfying reading experience. Ultimately, it was a messy book that couldn't live up to the hype.
