CATAN 3D Edition

I never review products. This however is review worthy. My wife and I have had our eye on this set for about 6 months since we were first taught how to play Catan. After playing with my brother-in-law, we bought the GOT edition and played it so much the cardboard began pulling at the edges. The search began for a more sturdy “elite” set. I saw the price initially and damn near had a stroke. However, the more I looked at videos and pictures of the set, the more I wanted this for my family’s game collection. We pulled the trigger on buying this and it got here a day ahead of time. I’m so utterly impressed with the quality of the product that I wish I would have done a YouTube unboxing video. The attention to detail, the hard plastic that everything is made out of, the hand painted look is everything I hoped for and more. The sole “complaint” I have is how busy the board looks compared to the 2D versions. However, once you get used to it, it becomes just as enjoyable as the 2D versions.

The 3d aspect adds so much to the game. My wife even likes playing now. Seems a bit pricey now, I got mine much cheaper than current pricing. Cannot find a 5-6 player expansion for the 3D.

This is one of those things that’s entirely unnecessary, but completely changes the game. The level of detail and perfect execution is incredible. We have been playing Catan for years, but this adds another level to the game. Each piece is exquisitely detailed and will last a long time. my wife’s only complaint is that the number tiles don’t slot in perfectly on the resource tiles other than that it is a flawless execution.

My friend's copy of this. His yellow disks had the numbers rub off some time before playing the game 20 times. So when I got my copy today. I decided to put a clear coat of nail polish to protect the numbers so they last. While it didn't come out perfect. I want to say if you are going to do this. Make sure you cover the numbers with the clear coat in one pass. When I went to use the brush to thin the clear coat. It began to take off the black numbers and dots. It made 1 number look antiqued and number 12 was mostly stripped. However I was able to use a black sharpie to write the Number 12 and Dot back on. Thankfully it doesn't look horrible.

We play Catan at least 2x a month with friends. We got the 3d model since one of the players is hard of seeing. The raised terrane helps a lot. We did use the original game pcs., the 3D pcs are amazing but there wasn't enough contrast for him to pick out who's were who's. The hexes are nice and thick and ridged.

Kids wanted this game for awhile. I couldn’t see what it was about the gameplay they liked so much, but they kept saying they enjoy playing it each time they get together with their friends. Finally I bought it. It’s pricey, even with using Amazon discount and accumulated points. HOWEVER … I don’t regret. Our players ranged from 8-65yo and it was a very immersive game for every participant. For me to have kids exchange video games to spend time with family was priceless. Everyone participated and enjoyed social time together. Quality of board and pieces is good. Tokens could use more detail. Overall really RECOMMEND! (Decided to expand with Seafarers edition)

So much of the board is great, the ore mountains, the cities, the settlements, the roads and even the robber are all incredible upgrades from the original board. Also love the card holder. I would like to see 2 sets of card holders for all resources due to the reaching across the board for certain resources can be tiring. Now to the negatives. The designer put no thought into number and robber placement on the tiles. The ore is the only place the numbers fit well. The original robber home tile is perfect with an area carved out, but on certain tiles it becomes very frustrating in placing the robber where it will sit upright. Numbers are often difficult to see due to it not being level on certain tiles. To me this is a big oversight that I wish I had known before paying such a high price. It’s hard to tell how long this game will last, just not sure how strong the pieces are. Example: a 3 for 1 port was broken when I opened the box. An easy super glue fix but for $200 should I have to super glue anything? With a few upgrades and foresight on the design this game could have been incredible. Hope to see improvements in the future.

We have been playing Catan and all of the variations for many years. We love the look and feel of this 3D version! I wish there was an expansion so we could play with more people.

The 3d tiles and parts look amazing and are incredible fun to play with. However the insert to hold the tiles are of very poor quality and arrived already broken.

Really cool game!

I give it 5 stars although for the price....well, it comes down to whether you want a 3D version of this game or you don't, but let me say the detail on each hex is fantastic. The Hex pieces are larger than the cardboard version of the game and it kept the 7 and 4 year old granddaughters enthralled for over 20mins and that ain't easy to do! If you haven't played Catan then you're missing out on a fun family game which is easy to learn with plenty of youtube vids on how to play.

Es un juego de mesa realmente bonito, se pueden apreciar varios detalles en cada pieza. Los tokens por otra parte se me hicieron algo sencillos y se rallan muy fácilmente. La caja me hubiera gustado que estuviera un poco mas rígida pero se entiende, lo importante son las piezas y el juego en sí. Por mi parte llegó en buen estado y tenía descuento. Recomendaría comprar esta edición? Si tienes dinero extra y eres amante de los detalles, sí, definitivamente! De lo contrario la edición normal esta perfecta y de igual forma pasaras horas de diversión.
