Discrete, pretty, and motivating!
Okay, so I didn't think I would love this as much as I do. I'm not a very "fit" person - I don't go to the gym as a hobby, I don't count calories, I don't drink protein shakes, etc. - so I thought I wouldn't get very much use out of it. However! I use this thing all the time, and it even motivates me to keep moving! I love that you can set your own goals, too. I run three times a week, and it recognizes that as my goal. It's interesting how it keeps track of your sleep, too. The battery charge doesn't last for very long, but I think it charges fairly quickly. I usually just charge it when I'm sitting down to watch TV or something when I won't lose any tracked steps. If you're on the fence about this, I would say go for it! It's the cheapest one and it isn't super bulky. It's very discrete, so it doesn't look so out of place when you have to be dressy, which is something I don't like about the Apple watch or some of the more intense Fitbits. *UPDATE* so like three days after posting this review, my dog ended up chewing my Fitbit while it was charging. I contacted their customer service and explained the situation and told them I've had it for less than two weeks, and despite dog chews not covered under the 1-year warranty, they replaced my tracker for free. I'm actually amazed by their customer service. I contacted them late Saturday night, and by Tuesday morning my new replacement tracker is preparing to ship. Just wanted to share how insanely helpful the Fitbit customer service is.

Good for sofa sloths
I'm lazy, and it shows in my latest lab results from my doctor. I doubt I'll ever be one to so any strenuous exercise, but I've got to step up the activity a little, or I'm headed to an early death. I figure if I can actually see my activity levels, it might be easier to push myself a little further when walking my dog or choosing between the elevator and the stairs. So far, that's exactly what's happening. I'd been eying the Fitbit Flex 2 for a while, and some Amazon gift certificates for Christmas finally made it happen. The price-point is very affordable, and it's mostly waterproof, meaning I won't accidentally kill it by forgetting to take it off when I wash my hands or rinse a dish. And who knows...maybe I'll get a wild hair this summer and make use of the swimming pool. Having never used anything remotely like this before, I was glad the app walked me step-by-step through setting it up. Unfortunately, it just wouldn't connect to my phone after the double-tap thing, but after a little online sleuthing, I found among the similar complaints from other users one comment that said to just keep tapping after it vibrated. And tapping. And tapping. And believe it or not, that did the trick. The app itself is pretty awesome. I loaded it on my iPhone, and it syncs throughout the day, telling me how many steps I've taken and how many calories I've burned (including the ones our body uses just breathing and being alive). I can add things I've eaten, set and track activity and weight goals, and see how well I've been sleeping. I especially love the silent alarm and notification features, since it can (a) quietly alert me to a cell phone call or text message, which is awesome while I'm at work, and (b) silently remind me to get up off my butt and move every so often. Wearing it is surprisingly comfortable. I suppose if you're not used to something on your wrist, it might take some getting used to, but I typically wear a couple of bracelets, so this wasn't really a change for me. The wristband material is flexible and pretty tough, so it can handle the bumbs and scrapes of going about my regular life without damaging the magical pebble inside. I like that it's fairly inconspicuous as well, with no digital face to attract attention. After all, I have my lazy reputation to maintain! So far my activity isn't impressive at all, but at least I can measure what I'm up to, have a concrete starting point, and set a realistic goal. 10k steps? Nope, probably not anytime soon. But 5K would be a huge improvement for a sofa sloth like me, and my dog is loving that I let her take me on longer walks now that I'm able to see my lack of progress -- and finally do something about it!

defective merchandise
About 9 months ago, I decided to get a new fitbit and saw a sale on Amazon from 1seller1. Having used this product in the past (flex 2 received as a gift and earlier model from Best Buy store) I purchased this new fitbit flex 2 hoping to motivate more walking-instead I've had annoyances and aggravation from trying to get this to work. Essentially it is junk. When it first arrived it would not charge-pretty much not at all. After hours of having it in the outlet charger to no avail I tried the laptop charger. So, I arranged to return it for a refund and received a refund label (so that was good) but since I could not locate the original packaging was unable to do so. I found the packaging later but it was too late. I have no way to contact this seller. Later, I tried again to charge it as I saw one light and had a glimmer of hope it might work. Having thrown away good money on this product, I tried in vain to get it to work. I managed to get it to appear to have charged it minimally to get a flashing blue light and the occasional buzzing. However, as it turned out, that did not mean it would be "findable" by the fitbit app each time. Only once was it-to my phone app-never the window app on my laptop with the non-blue tooth device dongle--but regardless of the perceived small victory, the battery failed to ever charge sufficiently to sync ever. So my conclusion is: this must be a knock off or one of the"made in china" poor quality and defective merchandise units-- in comparing this seller's product to the ones I previously purchased at reputable stores (which actually managed to work all the time unlike this which never worked) I would like to get a refund but won't hold my breath -despite the UCC which requires a refund for defective products within 1 year. That is a huge drawback to buying on Amazon instead of the old fashioned trip to a physical store. BUYER BEWARE.

Love this tiny thing!
I have used other fitness trackers before and they were fine. I never wanted to spend the money for the Fitbit name if I’m being honest. But I didn't know about the Flex version. I love this thing. The app alone puts the others to shame. I also have really tiny wrists and trying to find one that fit comfortably was a challenge. The small band would fit a child and it works great for me. The device itself is so tiny and non-intrusive. I would say that if you’re trying to track sleep (I am) make sure you set the app to high sensitivity for sleep. It will still track it fine on normal, but the details are a little better on high. Also, the text notification is OFF by default. It took me forever to figure that out! Great little tracker and very comfortable. My boyfriend has the fancy one and really the only difference I see in the cost difference is that his has a watch. I never wear a watch so it doesn’t bother me that it doesn’t have that feature.

Good as a very basic, beginner fitness tracker!
I just upgraded from the Flex 2 to the Versa, so I now feel like I can confidently review this. This is by far the most basic fitness tracker offered by Fitbit. It does NOT track heart rate. You will need to upgrade for that. It is mostly good as a pedometer or just to get a general idea of how much you sleep. Sleep - I initially got this only to track my sleep. I have a sleep disorder so I'm always curious to learn more about my sleep cycles so maybe I can improve them. Well, it does track sleep pretty well. Although if you do stay in one position for a long time it may start counting you as sleeping, which is kind of annoying. But it's actually better than I thought it would be about knowing the difference. The major downside is unlike the ones that track heartrate, you cannot view your actual sleep cycles (REM, deep sleep, light, awake) so that's a big con and didn't actually help me that much for analyzing sleep. Pedometer - the pedometer worked fine for me, but it should be noted that Fitbit is famous for their trackers overcounting steps. So I would probably add a couple thousand steps to your goal to make up for that. Aesthetics - it's actually a pretty cute watch. I got the lavender one and I was surprised by how nice it looked. The downside is that the band started to get kind of old and grimy looking fairly quick. There are a lot of options for replacement bands though for really cheap on Amazon if you need one. An issue for me is the metal tracker inside. I'm highly allergic to non-gold metals, so every now and then if it got too tight it would make my arm break out in a little rash. It wasn't common but it did happen. I don't have any issues like this with the Versa. Charging - this has a long life (about 4 days for me) and it only takes maybe 30 minutes to an hour to fully charge. It's pretty easy to charge...just pop the tracker into a little holder that has a usb at the end that you can plug in to charge. Complaint - probably the worst part about the Flex for me was how the tracker inside the band could too easily pop out. THREE TIMES I suddenly realized, "where is my tracker???" I had to download one of those apps where you can sort of track your Fitbit's location and thankfully it was in the house, but it popped out way too easily and was scary. Bonus - It's waterproof. Besides the Ionic and Versa (the most expensive models), it's the only other Fitibt that's waterproof. This was a big deal to me because I am so scatter-brained, there is no way I would be able to remember to take off a watch every time I took a shower. I know the review sounds kind of harsh, but I actually was very happy with it until I got spoiled by the Versa. I would recommend this more for casual exercise-goers. If you are really into exercise you'll probably want one with a heart-rate tracker. I also think at this point that Fitbit could stand to lower the price a little bit, maybe $40-50.

Malfunctioning only after 3 months
I've had this device since June and I wanted to write this review after using it for awhile. I decided to get a fitbit device because when my hubs and I finally pushed ourselves to be more active and run daily, I wanted a visual of how active I am each day. My phone can measure steps taken but I don't always have my phone on me so I wanted something that I can wear. I picked this one because it had all the functions I was looking for and it was slim (which I love) and affordable. It's a great product and when it works, it works well. I am however only giving it 3 stars because just in the last week, it began to sync weirdly. Last week it recorded more than. Half of my running on the next day (I run around 10~11pm but I know I finished running well before midnight) thus making it look like I didn't work out that day. Otherwise I would have hit my goal of 7 out of 7 days work out. Then today I noticed my fitbit device, despite having run 3 miles, appeared as though I haven't even taken half of my daily goal (which is 9000). When I checked the app, it recorded a much higher number. Then I took additional steps to get to my daily goal (which by the way I easily exceed normally) and checked the app only to find that even after syncing multiple times, it didn't recognize those steps. I am disappointed that it's already malfunctioning, I've only had it for almost 3 months. I'm not sure why it's doing this.

Great motivational tool.
I love my Fitbit. It helps me track my steps throughout the day and can even remind you to move at certain intervals. My boyfriend and I compete to see who walks more in a given day and its been great for both of us. We've started loosing weight and its challenged us to take the next step (no pun intended) and start eating healthier as well. It's nice to have that physical representation of your activity during the day, and it makes you want to get out and walk more to try to beat your previous day's count. I even use it at my desk with my bicycle spinner, I strap it to my ankle and spin while I work. It isn't the most accurate for that purpose but it still allows me to count that towards my day's activities. I had the Charge2 (I lost it) before I got the Flex 2 and I have to say I prefer this one. Charge 2 vs Flex 2: Flex 2 is small and sleek enough that I can wear it all day without it becoming a bother, whereas when I would sit down to work at the computer I would constantly find myself taking the Charge 2 off to be more comfortable. Flex 2 is water resistant so I don't have to remove it when I wash dishes or my hands, which I felt compelled to do with the Charge2 because i didn't want to run the chance of damaging it. Where the Charge 2 beats the Flex 2 is with its capabilities such as the heart monitor and a screen to show time and stats throughout the day, but the you have your phone on you 24/7 anyways those aren't that important. Given the price difference and convenience of the Flex 2, I'd choose it any day over the Charge 2.
