IASA Anchovy Syrup Colatura di Alici di Cetara 100ml - Pack of 2

Holy cow is this good! I've been reading about Roman/Greek/Phoenician garum and, before I make my own, I wanted to try the closest thing we have that's commercially available. I was warned it's unlike anything else. They were right. The flavor is hard to describe, but it's absolutely magnificent. Extremely salty, a little goes a loooooong way, and extremely... umami. It just has a certain something that brings out the flavor in other foods.I looked at some other garum-like products on Amazon, but this seemed like the best one. I sauteed a steak in olive oil and did not put on any salt or pepper as I usually do. I poured maybe a table spoon worth of it over the steak - the container is nicely made to give you a small stream so you don't overdo it - and the flavor just fills your mouth and completely satisfies. I ate a 13 oz steak with nothing but a teaspoon of Colatura de Alici and it was all it needed. I don't think I could ever go back to salt and pepper.The liquid you get is not as dark brown as it appears in the photo here; instead, it's a nice, clear amber color, like tea. It's expensive, but a little can last you a while. This stuff is wonderful and I can't wait to make my own!

Since Roman times colatura di alici (or fish sauce, aka garum) is a naturally strong condiment, but this one in particular is a bit too much for my taste and nose. I’ll stick to the Agostino Reccia brand, much more subtle and still very tasty

this was so good. I used it on a salad with Italian dressing. I love the taste of anchovies so applied liberally. Haven't used it on anything else. I will be ordering more. The bottle is cute too.

Heard that Giada deLaurentis uses this, so got it. Drizzled on steak before grilling. Genius! Looking forward to other uses.

I expected "garum" to be picant and overpowering. It is delicate on the tongue and offers an almost floral fragrance. Improves all my red and olive oil pasta sauces, foccacia, and salad dressings, even my hamburgers.

Great colatura. A biit expensive . Will buy again when available
