The best tool to use for potty training.
This was an awesome tool to use while potty training our child. You have a couple setting of when the monkey says it is time to use the potty. We used that opportunity as a game and would race to the potty. We made sure that the monkey's toilet was near our toilet. The monkey would be placed on the potty to reset and say praises. While the monkey was taking about praises, our child would be taking their turn. Our child thier potty book as well. The parent guide also gave helpful tips. I would highly recommend using this tool for potty training.

Potty Monkey pros and cons and how to fix it
I have a child with special needs and the task of potty training is taking its toll. It has been too many years in diapers with too many rug doctor rentals and ruined mattresses that my sanity cannot take much more. I have been looking for ANYTHING that might be a novel way to help, and found him on amazon after looking at potty watches that I was disappointed to see the watch got horrible ratings. The monkey came up on recommendations.First let me say, it worked right out of the box and my daughter wanted to sit on the potty right away! WINNER! She was delighted with her new potty friend. There is a kid book that comes with it, and it is super short, but super cute, and would work well with very young kids and/or kids with special needs. My daughter loves the mirror in the back of the book to show how proud she is of herself. There is a parent book that I guess is important for some people, but after 8 years of trying to train, I have become an expert on the many facets of potty training. No biggie. I am sure goodwill will be delighted to have it.It also includes the monkey and his own potty. The monkey has two timers that you choose by a switch on his battery pack imbedded inside and accessible by a velcro closure on his back. He has a cute kid voice and he can remind your child every 30 minutes or every 90 minutes that he needs to potty. If you don't take him to sit on the potty when his timer goes off the monkey tells you he really needs to go. The monkey will tell you again two more times with increasing urgency. After the third time he tells you, 'Uh oh, I had an accident' and reminds you to please try better next time. It is a friendly message and no big deal.If you DO take him to sit on his potty, he has several cute phrases and songs to keep your kid amused while learning potty skills. As long as he is sitting there he will continue to encourage and be cute. He comes with a little cloth diaper and a set of underwear. Honestly the underwear/diaper things are not any different, other than one has blue stars and one is plain white. Pull ups will probably be with us for many years to come, so I dont really harp on the underwear deal, but maybe in time. The monkey's potty has a flush button that makes the flushing sound that your kid has to push on their own to make it flush. In other words, it is not automatic or related to removing the monkey from his throne. Now for the cons. They are minor and I would still buy this again and recommend it to friends.I wish the monkey had a wipe reminder, a flush reminder and hand washing reminder when you take him off the potty. We just add that to the ritual on our own. Once you take him off he does not really have that much to say until the next timer goes off reminding to go potty. Wiping, flushing and hand washing is something my typical child still has a hard time remembering, and I am hoping to get it done with my second child. It would have been nice to have this incorporated into the monkey routine.Besides that, I only have one big complaint about the monkey. I considered taking two stars off, but I was able to fix it, so I only took one star off.The monkey speaker and potty flush speaker are excessively LOUD. His voice resonates in a small bathroom and the flush is loud enough to be a little scary. To be fair, many toys have this problem now days. For kids with special needs it can be very intimidating if they have sensory issues. But I have dealt with it for many years and have learned how to handle the situation. The GOOD news is the solution is cheap and easy and works for the monkey and many other loud toys.... Duct tape.Cut a couple squares and layer them on top of each other to cover the speaker on the potty and on the internal monkey speaker. You can get white duct tape if that matters to you, but it is not that noticeable. The potty's speaker is on the underside and it took 3 squares layered on top of each other to get the desired sound level .The monkey's speaker took a bit more effort because I had to dig it out of his stuffing underneath the battery pack. You have to wrap the tape a couple of times around the entire speaker encasement because just putting the tape on the front does not muffle the sound enough to be an acceptable level. I just wish the manufacture had given parents the choice of a softer sound like some other toys, but don't let that stop you from getting a great tool to help with potty training. My last little complaint is getting to the switch to change the timer on the monkey or shut him off is a small annoyance. You have to pull out his battery pack from behind the velcro strip in the back each time. It's a minor thing and just something to get used to.In the end, (no pun intended) I am glad I bought the monkey and I am looking forward to seeing the results. So far, so good.

Monkey potty.
I have been potty training my 2 year old son for a couple of months now. He really wasn't making any progress so I did some research and found this. When we first got it my son was excited and encouraged to use the toilet. The monkey has a timer for 30 minutes or 45 minutes. It is pretty loud and says reminder that it is time to use the potty. If you don't bring the monkey and sit him on the toilet fast enough he says that he didn't make it and to try again. Not those exact words but you get my point. The toilet that comes with the monkey makes real flushing sounds and is VERY loud. My son got bored with it but it is a very good tool to introduce to motivate your child.

So Thankful for This Potty Training Tool
Thank the Lord! Our youngest son who is 17 is intellectually delayed and has had such a hard time with not having potty accidents. In his frustration he has become obsessed with adult diapers as a solution for his problems, which we have never let him go there. This little money has been such a blessing for us! When we received him (we call it a boy), I asked my son if he would help me to potty train the monkey and he agreed. In his focusing on the monkey to care for it etc, he has not once complained about having to go to the bathroom. No resistance and we've had the potty monkey for about two weeks. The little child's book was helpful to reinforce a healthy mindset about diapers etc, which since this monkey came to live in our home, we have not heard about adult diapers. Many of you don't have special needs children, but all children need to role play, even though my child is extremely delayed, he gets it. I have and will continue to recommend this smart little monkey! My son is the youngest of six boys, so I've been through many potty training experiences and I'm just glad to learn some new tricks!

This thing is awesome! My son loves helping his monkey go potty
This thing is awesome! My son loves helping his monkey go potty, and I think it has really helped with potty training. It comes with a little story book, that has a short and sweet story to read to your kiddo. It also has a little potty training guide for adults. Only negative is that I wish the battery pack would come out completely so I could throw the monkey in the washer...since it's a potty training tool, it is definitely going to get peed on eventually! And with the monkey's tail, it is a little difficult for my son to pull up/down his underwear. Not a big deal because I help him, though. Overall, this is a great product and I think this is why he has finally started going pee on the potty! He carries this darn thing around all day.

Very cute, but not a hit with my child
This is so stinking cute (pun intended). The monkey talks like a little child and reminds you every 30 or 60 minutes that it "has to go potty". It's requests get more urgent until finally it says that you need to try better next time. :) The first few days my 3 year old son (who is all about trucks and trains and not dolls or stuffed animals at all) loved it! He'd run to the bathroom to help the monkey go potty. He loved flushing the monkey's potty. He'd cheer for it and was overall excited. Day 4, however, he threw the monkey under the couch after a total fit and said, "Hush monkey!" We've since taken a break from the monkey and hope to rekindle the friendship very soon. ;) The book for parents is helpful (different views--like recommending laxatives for kids to make them poop more, which is WEIRD to me)--but it does have some great information in it. The kid book is precious! My son still likes to read it regularly. Overall, this is a great idea, hopefully, it will work great for your child!
