Review: This is unlike any other book you’ll read on how the Ego works. While the science has moved on, the analogy of genetic evolution to understand the memetic evolution of the ego is very interesting and in line with many other’s ideas in ego denial. Review: Well written book with challenging ideas to wrestle with. Very insightful and generally easy to read. If you buy this be aware of the clear agenda of people with these ideas. The concept of the meme is powerful and persuasive BUT to describe God as meme is like reading the Tower of Babel story all over again. I enjoyed reading it precisely because it makes me think carefully about things.

Formidable book, making it clear how a second replicator works on us and uses our brain as vehicle for spreading itself and by doing so accounts for much of the culture we humans live in. Blackmore's text is the clearest of all theoretical explanations about memetics and its outreach to explain culture. Most impressive was the chapter about how memes drove our brains to get much bigger than what is to be expected from its body-brain proportions. And equally impressive the theory about how memes and language creation are very closely linked. Words as pronounciable memes are building blocks for many of the imitations among humans. Imitation, by the way, is seen as the central memetic mechanism for which still much empirical work must be done to make that more explicit and evidence based. I am just sorry not to have read it much earlier...
