Moving and Insightful True Account
Wow! This book encapsulates the challenges that Ava had to overcome throughout her childhood and it provides many insights that other Type 1 diabetes patients and their families will undoubtedly identify with. The book is so well written and easy to read with each chapter seamlessly merging into the next. I found myself fully immersed in Ava’s journey and whilst there are moments of despair that ‘tug on the heartstrings’ the message of hope shines through in the end.I’d thoroughly recommend this book to anyone who faces similar challenges to Ava and to anyone interested in learning more about type 1 diabetes. It’s truly inspiring!

An engaging, sometimes shocking, but inspiring true story
A turbulent, eye-opening, and inspiring story of a young girl with a chronic medical condition. The book is clearly written through the eyes of Ava, as she experiences all the emotions of a growing child and teenager with the added pressures of living with Type 1 diabetes. This story provides an insight into the everyday struggles of both Ava and her wider family. The frank revelations of Ava’s mother also provide advice for other families dealing with similar struggles. This ‘hybrid’ book provides not only a beautiful human story, but a reference book with practical information and other useful resources. Finally, the heart-grabbing pictures are drawn by Ava - throughout her life - and bring the pages to life.A wonderful book!

Incredible & Inspiring
Wow what a book! A must read.It really is a story of loss, change & survival. The book is filled with an abundance of great information on so many topic areas. I found it very easy to read with the illustrations and source references providing another dimension to the overall story. It really covers so much about what so many children experience growing up - as well as a detailed insight to what it’s like living with medical conditions. The Professor’s expert perspective also gave extra validation to what is already an excellent book.

Very relatable and interesting to read
Just finished it. I found it a good story about a family going through ‘tumultuous’ things that could happen to any family, so I thought that was interesting to read about. I’m going to lend it to my friend to read it as her daughter has diabetes also. The drawings were super cute! Actually might buy Emily her own copy!!
