Worth the money, great for beginners, my man who can play any stringed instrument found no trouble tuning it, but beginners to strings would potentially. Sounds beautiful to anyone from beginner to intermediate. Bought better strings as per other reviews, but haven't needed to change to them yet! Beautiful colour-We are for sure happy with what we got, for what we paid.

After reading other reviews I can confirm a few items to watch out for when you get this. It is a great value package for beginners but the initial setup may prove daunting to a beginner. Any new instrument, especially smaller ones, need time to break in and adjust. You wont be pulling this out of the box, tuning it up and playing perfect pitch the first day. It is a tedious setup process, but once setup you will enjoy this instrument for years to come. It comes pre strung but strings are loose for transport. As a test I tuned the strings that were pre installed and it sounded good enough. The included tuner works as expected but is not as easy to use as Snark or other known brands. I am a guitar player but have not played mandolin. Replacing strings here is no different on a mandolin than guitar but does take more patience and finesse to tune than a guitar. The included strings are not fancy but will tune properly with some patience. Get the mandolin tuned as close as possible and play it a bit. Yes it will sound off. Don't try to get it sounding perfect that first day. Set it aside for a day to 'rest' before coming back and fine tuning the strings again. On this second day you want to ensure the floating bridge is in the correct position. Mine had shifted slightly in travel resulting in the odd mismatched sound on the 1st fret. I verified the bridge placement by playing the (tuned) open strings one at a time followed by playing a 'harmonic' on the 12th fret for each string. (lightly touch but do not press down on the 12th fret then remove your finger so it rings out) Using the tuner, check that the open string matches the same tuning as the harmonic on the 12th fret. Take note of any strings that do not match then see what movement is needed on the bridge. Mine needed just the low string side of the bridge moved back barely a millimeter toward the tail (body) end to fix because my low string was out but high string was ok. Have to loosen the strings a bit so you can very carefully adjust the bridge. Want to be able to move it with some resistance but not too loose as too much movement and you will have to tune and start over. (This is the tedious part) Then tune it again and may have to repeat a few times until you get it right and all 4 sets of strings are tuned open and harmonically at the 12th fret.

The music is pretty, the piece is built very sturdily. Great quality!
