Key Locks Jam regularly
I have purchased a number of the 8442-6502-0500 units. I have had a real problem with the key locks jamming. They just stop working. It is always a "trick" to get the key locks to either engage the drive or to disengage. I think there are problems with the basic design. It's very frustrating to have to purchase new units and reinstall.

works as expected but the keys & locks wear out much faster than the ones used on the CRU DE110 series.

Excellent for home or business use
Fantastic hard drive dock. Works with 2.5 and 3.5 drives, and both ssd and hdd types as well. It is hot swappable, and rugged. Also has a fan to cool the drive, you can buy additional trays (carriers) to hold more drive, and swap as you want. for raid, storage, backups, or anything else. It's just the greatest product, and adds flexibility to my workstation. and these units are built tough to last in a server environment. The model I chose works with SATA III and it's not just compatible with SATA III, but it's compliant. I just couldn't be happier with CRU DataPort. I highly recommend it to anyone, regardless of whether you run a business or use it at home.

Get this if your data is important enough for high quality drives.
I purchased mine directly from the CRU website. If you are serious about your data you have to use high grade drives. If you do that you'll want to protect your investment. The DP10 carriers have their own rugged connectors so you won't wear out the connectors on your expensive drives. They also allow diagnostics from the drive manufacturers to work (I like to use Hard Disk Sentinel also). The frames have fans and install in your computer case which likely has ventilation anyway. Saving or backing up important data on consumer drives in cheap enclosures will bite you later.A stat not many people look at is the Unrecoverable Read Error (URE) rate for their drives. Also known as Unrecoverable Bit Error (UBE) rate or the Bit Error Rate (BER). Read up a little on that and you'll be convinced that for larger drives you'll need a URE rate of 10^15 or better. That means more expensive drives. Look for 5-year warranties too so you know the drive maker is confident about the product. After all that, if you need a removable solution, especially for backups, you'll conclude that the DP10 is worth it.
