This primer is perfect for resin printed minis and smaller parts! The spray is much finer than hardware store spray on primers and creates fine coats that don’t distort the small details of prints. It goes on smooth and creates a fantastic finish that really makes the details pop on the model. It seems to dry pretty quickly and I’ve had no issues applying multiple coats before letting the parts dry.I’ve tried both hardware store spray primers and brush on primers, and this stuff is both faster and better quality! It may be more expensive but it’s well worth it!

Every miniature paint maker makes their own primers. And if you're looking at the reviews on Tamiya primers, you've probably used at least one or two from (sounds like) James Herpdrop or Ah-mee Tayntor. In no way am I slamming their products, as I use them myself at least semi-regularly.But the truth is that once you try a can of Tamiya primer, you're going to be spoiled forever. These are extremely high quality primers with top-tier adhesion and coverage. Most importantly, the coverage is smooth as can be. Even in colder or warmer than normal conditions, these primers go on very nicely with no pebbling or gaps.As long as you know how to prime and have a little practice at it, these are practically foolproof. And having your minis primed at this kind of quality makes all the difference once you start painting.If you're not ready to leap to an airbrush or if you really never plan to use one, Tamiya really is as good as it gets. Their primers really are the gold standard.

Good plastic primer

For serious Modelers and Makers this is the way to go. Amazing coverage, good thickness, smooth finish, and good drying time. Works great and worth the cost. Five STARS all day long.

I heard that this product worked as a great base layer for painting resin prints in a blog somewhere. I attempted painting on the resin itself and it basically just peeled off when trying to add the second coat so this was a must have.I tried it on my Poison Ivy statue shown above which was printed with a dark grey (space grey) resin. It coated the statue very evenly and painting went so much better afterwards. It didn't leave a texture on the print or anything and worked very well!

Before I start I should note, I bought my can of primer a several years ago, and am only writing my review now. While I highly doubt anything about the formula has changed, one of my complaints (which I'll explain) may have been changed during that time frame, though I doubt it. I bought this primer when it was $10.99 USD, so I'll factor in its current price into my review.As the title of my review states, this is EASILY the most adherent primer I ever used. Rustoleum doesn't hold a candle to it. Metal, plastic, doesn't matter. Once it's on there - It's on there. Of course it's sandable, but its adherence can be a double edged sword. The primer is not mistake friendly. It picks up every little detail, and if you screw up (e.g. put too much on at once, or an imperfection underneath) it is a huge pain to take off. I have tried rubbing alcohol, mineral spirits, enamel reducer, Hell - I found out by happenstance that it's even resistant to the heat from a soldering iron. The ONLY method I've found to take it off without spending 20-30 minutes sanding is specifically lacquer thinner. Lacquer thinner will strip it off very fast, all you need is a paper towel soaked in it. That said, plastic doesn't like lacquer thinner, and will eat it real quick and make it get soft and maliable.One of my biggest complaints about this primer is the can itself. The nozzle rotates, but doesn't have an indentation on top to intuitively tell you by touch which direction the primer will come out of. While this doesn't sound like a big problem, I have on multiple occasions screwed up a project because I thought it was gonna come out one way, when it went out another.Now then, the biggest question - Is it worth paying it's now almost $16 price tag? Unless the project you have absolutely requires extreme fine detail, and ridiculous adherence, no I don't think so. I bought this for $10.99, and even then, considering the quantity you get, it was pushing the barrier of being worth the money. Now, at $15.90, that's just shy of a 45% increase from its starting price tag of $10.99.There are many other smaller brands that work just as well for the vast majority of projects you might need to do, at a fraction of the cost.

I paint miniature model horses and this primer is absolutely fantastic, goes on smoothly and coats evenly without losing tiny details. It’s all I use now!

I hate to admit it, because the cost is insane for this stuff, but it's an excellent primer.
