The Reef Set: Reef Fish, Reef Creature and Reef Coral (3 Volumes) [Paul Humann, Ned Deloach] on desertcart.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. The Reef Set: Reef Fish, Reef Creature and Reef Coral (3 Volumes) Review: Best fish & creature I.D. guide, endless photos and cultural info - This is my bible when snorkeling. The full color photos of hundreds of fish, coral and sea creatures are worth the price. Then, there is the detailed information on each species. The authors' deep knowledge of their subject and respect for the ocean shines through every page. When we head to the Caribbean, I always take one of these 3 volumes in the suitcase. Soft cover but excellent quality, I first came across the fish volume of the set on a dive boat that was taking us for a snorkeling excursion. It was much thumbed through but holding up well in the wet environment, and helped me to identify an obscure fish, the Permit, that I have rarely found in other references. I believe this is a recognized standard in the field. If you buy one reference on fish and creature I.D. this should be it. The authors also have a condensed version of one volume made specially for travel. Review: My Go-to Reference - I didn't realize how good these are until I used several other guides. I use the fish book most. The biggest difference is the small drawings by most photos pointing out the key features for distinguishing one fish species from another. Multiple phases are often shown for fish that change with age or sex. The other information is good - much more than just ID, but also not packed with details only an ichthyologist cares about. The other books are equally high in quality, but with different details. Corals and sponges are so variable that it's impossible to show a picture of every form, but they seem to do a good job under the circumstances. If you want to identify what you have seen or photographed in this part of the world, get these books.

Still the best fish ID guide
I own a dive shop in the Mexican Riviera and we used our old copies of these guide for YEARS to help our customers identify what they had seen on their dives. We finally wore them out. It is hard to imagine this many beautiful pictures being taken on film before digital camera went underwater. Great job Paul Humann.

This set is the bomb of all sets!
This 3 volume set is the most complete set of all the fish, creatures, and coral in the Caribbean. These could actually be used as college text material, they are that excellent. Great pictures and descriptions, even letting you know how they act around humans. You can't go wrong with this set, and it is much cheaper than buying them separately. I only wish the set would have included the two books they have on reef fish and reef creature behavior. They are a must buy also, if you are really into what is out there in the beautiful ocean.

I would have liked more information on each fish
This a picture book of fish and reef life. I would have liked more information on each fish, but it is a good book to identify reef life.

Great book!
Bought this book to be able to identify things I am seeing underwater as a new diver. Pictures are great and I really like the explanations about each thing identifying habitat, special markers, different stages of growth and development of fish to see how they look at different stages. They also have a list of all the fish, coral and creatures in the back of each book where you can keep a log of things you have seen, what picture # if you captured a picture of it, where you saw it etc which is a neat addition. Can't wait to use it to identify the things I see in the reef in Belize!

Excelente juego de libros para consultar sobre organismos marinos (peces, corales y otros). La imágenes son de lo mejor, con información básica sobre distribución y forma que ayuda a identificar a los individuos. SIEMPRE serán altamente recomendables. El precio me parece justo

When vacationing with Slickrock Adventures off the coast of Belize these reference books were highly recommended by the guides & owners. They had several copies of each book for guests to enjoy so I decided to treat myself to a set. Fabulous coloured photos make identification a real possibility for this avid snorkeller.
