Q: This arrived with no instructions. i plugged it into the color-coded jack. nothing is happening. i tried recording with audacity and "voice recorder"?

I know this question is from 2020, but for anyone else who sees this I just initially had this issue as well and then realized I still had the microphone plugged into the lightening port. The phone will think it is a microphone/headphone accessory except there is nothing to playback sound on. Once you unplug the microphone, the sound should play back.

Hello customer, this microphone has a lightning plug and is professional for device with lightning connector. Please confirm that if your laptop has a lightning jack before purchasing. What's more, please note that this microphone will be recognized by your device as an earphone, so when you plug in this microphone, you can only speak and record, but not hear anything else on the device.

Q: Will this mic do a good job recording from a distance order you need to have it clipped on to you for it to work? Can I stand a few feet away from it?

They can hear you but it sounds far away kind of defeats the purpose of having a clip on microphone. I suggest a shotgun microphone if you want to record 2 people.

It should be an easy plug in and use item. I use mine for videos and only have to plug it in and start recording. If you’re trying to listen to the video with the mic still plugged it it WILL NOT output sound. To listen to the video your recorded with the mic take the mic out beforehand, as the sound will try to go out through the mic as it’s acting like a ‘headphone’ for your cell. If that still doesn’t work it might not be compatible/defective.
