This is my favorite
The last in the three-book Jack Hawthorne adventure series, Blood and Bone still thrilled me from beginning to end. This time, Jack and Espy don't only have each other to look after. A decade after their adventure with the Nehushtan, they are now married with two sons to care for; sons whom they will do anything and forego everything for.Without giving anything away, let me just say that this third installment hits closer to the heart because there are children involved. As a sucker for heart-tugging, heartwarming, as well as thrilling stories, I think this is my favorite in this series. I'm not going to make this long, so as a last word, I now declare that Dan Hoesel is one more author I am going to follow.

Enjoyable read.
After reading the first two books in this series, I was pleasantly surprised to see a third story featuring Jack Hawthorne and other characters from the previous books.I won't risk possible spoilers by discussing much of the action in this latest installment. Suffice it to say that the action picks up nicely and moves along well. The ending wraps up the story well, leaving the reader satisfied, while still presenting potential for future Jack Hawthorne stories. One of the best compliments that I feel a book can be given is that I enjoyed it. Fiction is not carried by prose, but rather by the strength of the characters and the plot. A reader will go along for nearly any ride, so long as the writer brings that, and I found that Hoesel has done so with this book.

Exciting reading with a few missteps
Loved the series, but I found some of the escapes in this book in the harder to believe category. Also, I felt that there were details left out, maybe for the sake of book length, that made it even harder to believe. For instance, when they wound their way through all the dark tunnels without knowing where they were going and managed to survive their attackers. Without any further description, even slight, they are completely away from there and on to the next part of the adventure. This type of thing happened more than once, which was disappointing, because I didn't find it in the previous ones. That said, it was still a good read, and engaging. Definitely, if you've read the other two, you'll want to read this one.

Wonderfully entertaining book 3 in excellent series
I read books 1 & 2 a few years ago & loved. Waited for vacation & decided to read 1&2 again before reading this one (3). Great entertainment. Is a fast read through books that pull you in immediately & you don't want to set down. I also describe as "Indiana Jones" type adventure/intrigue book. Nicely written for multiple ages/demographics. I'm 47 & will happily pass to my teenage son to enjoy.

The best of the three in this series
I thought the book was well written and found an easy way to combine essential elements from the other two books in the series for a first time reader of the series, without taking away from those of us who have read the first two books. The ending was disappointing - a bit abrupt and somewhat anticlimactic - if not fairly unrealistic. Overall though, I feel it is well worth the read. My wife would've preferred more development of the relationship between The two main characters - but from my 'guys point of view' it was just fine.

What fun it was to gain so much knowledge and be ...
"Indiana Jones" move aside--your adventures are empty compared to those of our boy Jack Hawthorne! The author does a superb job of balancing action with character development and geographical/archeological description. What fun it was to gain so much knowledge and be entertained at the same time. There was never a dull moment as I wondered if/when/how Jack and his companions would get out of their latest tangle--so many twists, turns, and surprises.I will certainly miss these characters--the author made them so real with their triumphs and heartbreaks. Most of all, I appreciate that the author made this a fun yet clean series, and subtly imbued the main characters with a love and dependence on God.

A fitting conclusion.
I've gone along on this trip with Mr. Hoesel to see what we would find. I find that I have thoroughly enjoyed the ride. The company was pleasant. The conclusion satisfying. There were moments when I couldn't absorb the words fast enough, my imagination running on ahead. He never disappointed me. I visited cities I may never see but now desire to. I've stopped to look up words I was unfamiliar with but found appropriate. But through it all, I never regretted the money or time invested in this trip/book. Well done Mr. Hoesel.

Great read
This book is part of a Trilogy. All three are great adventures without the profane language and explicit sex. In fact, even with married couples, no sex scenes are included. It is a clean read, but not a kiddie or teenage read. Adults will love the adventure and intrigue, and not be afraid if their teens want to read it, too! If you want to cross the globe while discovering interesting pieces of a large-scale puzzle spanning centuries of hiding, this is the book for you!

Another Great Adventure.
This third outing for Jack Hawthorne was well worth the wait. Again once it was hard to put down once I had started to read it.This book brings back Elisha's Bones taking Jack and Espy on a frantic search to find the final resting place of the bones to save their sons. The story was great and as usual packed with so much historical detail. Please Mr Hoesel I do hope there are more wonderful adventures for Jack and Espy to come in the future.

A good read
The third installment for Jack Hawthorn and 10 years on and leading a quiet life teaching Jack and Espy are thrown back into the hunt for the bones they had hidden from society to enable them to save the lives of their kidnapped children. The search takes them back to Australia and then Russia and France, this is a real roller coaster story and a great read, I hope we will see more of Jack and Espy in the future.
