I bought this RS232 because I need a laptop to communicate to my Singer Quantum XL-6000 Sewing/Embroidery machine and it had the 9 pin Null cable (and no USB) which I need to attach the RS232 to so I could transfer embroidery designs to my sewing/embroidery machine. The problem being they were made to communicate to Windows XP and I needed to upgrade to a laptop, so currently running it on Windows 8, now. It was easy to install with the CD disc they sent, it had the manual and instructions and all the different drivers that I would need and easy to install. So I am one Happy Camper these days. Thank You GearMo. The only thing is that, GearMo had other RS232 Adapters but on Amazon.com not Amazon.ca. They were cheaper with the same FTDI ChipSet I needed but were not available in Canada. That would be my only complaint, so I had to spend more to do the same job. It is a step up from the other Adapaters though, so if you like Flashy Lights, you're good to go!

This cable allowed me to connect my Maruson UPS to my tower PC. The only bad thing is it come with 2 nuts that are not removable, which cause this cable to not be able to plug into a female DB9, so I had to buy and additional cable to connect the DB9 on the back of the UPS. This double-coversion/online UPS is a "sleeper"... the most inexpensive online UPS that actually works, including having power management software. The worst part is there is no/very little support and it is a bit noisy, but what you get is a UPS that will work with generators for a very good price. It comes with a USB-to-DB9 cable but that didn't work. My tower PC never detected it when plugged in. So I found that I needed 2 additional cables: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A6GIUZA https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00AHYJWWG The 2nd one is the main electronic conversion cable but for some reason it has screw blocks that prevent from plugging into the back of the UPS, so I had to buy the 1st one to adapt it so it could connect to the DB9 at the back of the UPS. Then I got the Winpower G2 software working on Windows 10 (for some reason Maruson buries the link, so you have to View source on their web page and find the download link). It took me a while to get the G2 software to find the UPS (the documentation is bad), but I think what made it work is there is a button that allows you to download a license and then you have to import the license file. After that the G2 software was able to find the UPS (in my case on COM7 port), and it is actually pretty nice. So it takes a bit of work to get everything working, but this is a helluva deal. I've already had one "event" where we lost main power, and it takes about a minute for the generator to kick in, but this UPS kept my tower running fine. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00A6GIUZA

This is about my fourth USB-RS232 cable, give or take, and the only one that seems to actually work without question. Tested on Windows, Linux, and Android; Works great across the board. It's a tad pricey, but cheaper cables have given me nothing but headaches.

Great product and design. The LED indicators really helps out when trying to determine if you are properly communicating to the device you are trying to manage, IE router or switch. Helped me realized that I had set the wrong baud rate in a terminal session into a Cisco ASA5505. Loaded under Windows 7 64bit without issue. Nothing negative to say. Highly recommend.
