Definitely Maybe Remastered

I picked up the remastered vinyl of Oasis’ Definitely Maybe, and while the music itself is timeless, the pressing left me with mixed feelings. The remaster brings some clarity and punch compared to older editions—vocals and guitars cut through nicely, and the bass feels fuller. On a good turntable setup, it does sound vibrant and alive. The jacket and sleeve artwork look sharp, and the heavyweight vinyl feels solid. That said, the pressing quality isn’t perfect—there’s a bit of surface noise on quieter parts, and it doesn’t quite capture the raw energy of the original ’94 press. If you’re a collector or fan, it’s still worth having for the improved dynamics and clean presentation, but purists may prefer the original or earlier pressings. Pros: Classic Oasis debut with improved clarity and punch in the remaster. Heavyweight vinyl feels durable and well-made. Artwork and packaging look clean and high quality. Vocals and guitars sound crisp, bass is more defined than older versions. Essential piece for any Britpop or Oasis fan. Cons: Some surface noise noticeable, especially in quieter tracks. Doesn’t fully replicate the raw, gritty feel of the original pressing. Price is a bit high compared to other editions. Remaster may sound too “polished” for fans who love the rough edge of the original mix.

I have listened to my original CD copy of this album more times than I care to count and would consider myself very familiar with this recording. This is simply a review of the vinyl itself because if you are reading this you probably already like Oasis and this album (which is certainly a slice of their best work). Ok, on to it: two lovely black LP's, wonderful gatefold packaging with artwork that appears reminiscent of the original (ie. no cheap low dpi scans). Another big plus is that whoever assembled the sets had the common sense to use anti-static sleeves to protect the LP's. What this means is that the records come out of the sleeves clean and ready to play (ie. no damage from paper sleeve burn or debris sticking in the grooves). I simply do not understand record companies that ship (expensive and fragile) records in garbage paper sleeves! Is it really that much of a cost savings?!? Anyhow, on to sound quality...yup, they got it right and it plays as lovely as an album with heaps of guitar distortion can: clean, steady and dynamic sound from edge to edge on both LP's (ie. good quality control between pressings!). Liam's voice never melts or splits apart and Noel's guitar never distorts beyond what seems to have been intended by the original production. In all honesty I've never thought of this album as a very high fidelity recording but much to my surprise what I found beyond the CD was a little more color in the guitar and vocals, a slightly deeper look into the master and a much, much bigger (or as the Brit's like to say "massive!") low end. The kick drum on "Supersonic" truly thumps and on the whole this version feels like a much larger soundscape. So there you have it, if you like well pressed records and enjoy noisy rock and roll from the two brothers who were "born for adversity" then you will be more than pleased with this set. Enjoy!

This was s gift for a family member who traveled to Wales this year for their kickoff European concert tour and they LOVE this album. So glad I got it for them.

I have to say the most disappointing thing about this remastered release is the original version of 'Slide Away' was replaced with a version where Noel's backing vocal on the pre-chorus is removed. That REALLY bothered me, considering that is my favorite track on the album. I think that's just wrong. The other is, all the bonus tracks added and they couldn't add the complete demo tape (Columbia & Bring it On Down are missing) .. the rest of the demo tape songs are there. That aside, it sounds great. I bought the deluxe box set (because i'm a total oasis fan boy), and these limited Oasis releases tend to be worth a bit of coin in the long run (Not that i'd sell it.. but ya know).. I have not yet compared the sound quality to the original release, just upon a quick listen, i feel it's pretty close to the naked ear.. and most people may not hear a difference. I read something that Liam had said in regards to this 20th anniversary release "HOW CAN YOU REMASTER SOMETHING THAT'S ALREADY [BEEN] MASTERED. DONT BUY INTO IT. LET IT BE.".. Classic Liam. But, surely, that comment won't stop the masses of Oasis fans from buying it.
