They DO exist.
I'd been looking for a product like this for a while, but never found them in typical office-supply aisles [e.g. in grocery stores, pharmacies, etc.].So I decided to check Amazon to see if they existed. And they did! -- this Japanese product seemed to be the best option.I liked that these pencil caps were metallic & colorful, instead of cheap plastic. And, the price was right too. They do in fact work, as shown in my product photo.I'm using them on generic #2 pencils [Ticonderoga brand] - nothing fancy. You have to press the metal cap (applying a modicum of pressure) onto the pencil until it sticks in place. There's plenty of room in the cap’s tip to comfortably accommodate your sharpened pencil tip.The reason I wanted a product like this was so that I could safely transport a sharpened pencil for sketching when I travel about.I contemplated getting some kind of pencil case, but there would be no guarantee of protection for the pencil tip.So I went with these Kutsuwa pencil caps --cool, effective, & minimalist.-Paul C.

Kutsuwa HiLine Pencil Caps are Perfect for Pencils!
Since I did not want a brand new pencil bag's white interior to become marked by sharpened #2 pencils, I purchased a set of Kutsuwa HiLine Pencil Caps. They are perfect! These Pencil Caps are study, the color and shine is retained, and they are easy to cap/uncap your pencils. This is a fabulous value for the number of high quality pencil caps included in a package. This meets my highly recommend for a product that works seamlessly. Bravo!

These are great! But might require a small adjustment depending on your pencils.
These are really helpful. I have many pencils of several types, and I sharpen them to a very long point. These help me keep my carefully sharpened pencils sharp in the case as I go back and forth to school. They are also great on all but the smallest stumps - just put them on the back and and they make it easier to hold tiny ends of pencils. However, I have to smush them together at the slit to make them just a little smaller, so they will stay on my charcoal pencils. And they don't fit on very big pencils.1) Take an x-acto or utility blade, stick it in the slit and twist a little to offset the edges just a bit.2) Then press in on one side, gently with your thumb to bend one edge in, and then push the edges together a little, to decrease the circumference.3) It goes out of round and you end up with the edges overlapping a little.4) Slide it onto a non-sharp pencil (to avoid breaking a nice point) of the kind I want it to fit, twisting the cap in the direction that makes the sharp edge –not– cut into the pencil as you go.(Experiment, you'll see what I mean. There are only two options :-p )This step expands the thin metal to a perfect fit.Occasionally, the fit needs to be reset, just repeat steps 2 - 4 above as needed.

Read this if your cap won’t stay on your pencil
These are really pretty and of solid construction, but they just won’t stay on my pencils no matter how far I shove them on. I’ve tried colored pencils, and different types of graphite pencils sold in the US, and they still won’t stay on while in my pencil pouch. These are nicely made, however, and worth a try to modify in order to have more grip.EDIT:So I finally figured out that if you pinch the wide end of the cap and curl one edge under the other, it adjusts the size 😅 it will scratch your pencil a little upon insertion, but the caps work effectively now!

Form and deform easily
These pencil caps look very nice and the different colors are helpful. The material can adapt to the various pencil sizes. However, 2 came already "squished" and unusable.

Can’t Live Without ‘Em!
Simple. Cheap. Functional. They do what they’re intended to - securely protect the points on your pencils. I use a pencil for 99.9% of my writing, and a big reason is that I use these. They protect the graphite tip from breaking, from getting graphite on other things in your briefcase, and from me accidentally stabbing myself when I reach in a bag and start digging around. What else can I say? Buy some!

Useful, colorful, and practical
These are solid metal caps (likely aluminum or tin) that are perfect for protecting points on pencils with soft leads (or with sentimental purpose) or preventing graphite from loosely rubbing off on other things. The slight taper at the end assures that your points are not damaged (I don't know of many that are sharpened to that level). I would, in my opinion, look for this in every pencil cap, plastic or metal. The color coating is cute but also serves a useful purpose for helping you identify certain pencils.Definitely, watch out for the metal in the slits and sometimes the burring on those edges. they are not always well de-burred, so they might scratch the pencil.
