Works great and allows to to use GE app.
Bought this to use with our new GE Cafe French Door Refrigerator. Was really easy to set up and allows me to use the GE appliance app to view my refrigerator status. I can view icemaker, filter, and hot water details, program my fridge or freezer to rapid chill, etc. Highly recommend!

Easy set up and works well
It works well, was easy to set up. I used this with a Geosprings Waterheater. It's really convenient to be able to change the settings when I have visitors or go on vacation.

Makes it so easy to change the temperature settings
Makes it so easy to change the temperature settings, and energy efficiency choices on our hybrid water heater. Expensive, but over time, well worth it.

Device works, app needs improvement
I'm using this on a GE GeoSprings 50gal hybrid water heater.Instructions are fairly simple but the associated iOS app for this is awful!Took a few tries to get through the setup process in the app due to crashing and menus not appearing as they should. After setup, the app seems to be ok...not great, but OK.This device is now compatible with the Amazon Echo and I do have mine setup to work together. Not sure how useful this will actually be but is kind of neat to be able to ask Alexa for my water heater status.

This item does not connect to your appliance
Following the instructions on the app we're simple, but it never connects. I would not recommend this device and the price of the item is way to much.

Don’t trust GE support info.
Interesting story regarding this doohickey. Number one, it’s only $50 directly from GE. I mentioned that in another review I wrote that magically disappeared. Get a code for free shipping by googling for it. This was $65 two days ago here, now $75? What a joke, Amazon!Anyhow, back to the story. I bought this to hook up to my water heater. It’s somewhat lame in its abilities and number of controls but it serves my purposes. When I read the included instructions, they were basically - get this - go look it up on the web. What’s the point of printing instructions that , we’ll, aren’t?! So I downloaded the app that was supposed to walk me through and, after I plugged it in and started going through the steps (the unit has no power supply of its own and your supposed to link your phone to its WiFi address, like setting up a Roomba), it gives a warning message in red with exclamation marks saying you’re supposed to SHUT OFF ALL POWER TO THE HEATER BEFORE YOU PLUG IT INTO THE HEATER! Evidently you can fry the computer module of the heater the way I did it. Well, the ConnectPlus unit didn’t work, so it did no damage. The light never lit up. I tried five times (the next four I turned off the power supply to the heater first) and... nothing. Nada. Zip. So I call customer service. A really nice guy comes on in short order and walks me through. First thing I notice is he’s skipping the “turn the thing off” warning, so I trust him.WARNING: When you are told to do something you know you’re not supposed to do, don’t do it!!! They may not know what they’re talking about. More on that shortly. That being said, since the ConnectPlus unit isn’t firing up (no light), it doesn’t do any harm. Knowing what I know now, I wouldn’t have listened to that, just to be safe. People have fried their heater computers. Google it. Anyways, back to the story. After several more attempts, using a reset button on the side, variously pushing and holding it for either three or ten second intervals, we get the light to come on, but it never flashes like it should and never puts out a WiFi signal my phone can pick up.This little item comes into play. Initially, when I’m giving him the model and serial number, the model number in all his info is missing the last letter, an A. I thought that was odd. The rest of the letters and numbers were all correct. Also keep in mind that GE no longer services these amazing heaters, even though you can still buy them. They’ve handed them off to another company. So in the end, he starts to tell me that the product is not WiFi capable. Wait a minute, WHAT?!?! All the marketing materials say it is, as does the huge one foot by one foot sticker right on the front of the unit. Not mentioning the CAT5 female plug on the unit I’ve been plugging the ConnectPlus into! I explain these glaring inconsistencies to him in several ways, but he sticks to his story that he’s seen stickers applied incorrectly to the wrong appliances. He urges me to give up and try to return the unit (on my dime, of course). I’m stubborn, and now that the unit has at least shown signs of life, I insist on trying an amalgamation if previous attempts one last time, the guy continuing to repeat that he’s never seen it work like that and that it probably won’t work. After what seems like forever, the thing blinks the way it’s supposed to. Then after another eternity the expected WiFi address shows up. Remember, during all of this he’s expressing total surprise and repeating that it probably won’t work. Well, after a period of time that made all the other waiting periods seem like a blip, the sucker finally connects!VICTORY!!!The support guy is in utter shock and wholeheartedly congratulates me. I courteously thank him (remember, he’s been really nice and very patient, and not utterly useless) and finally end the hour long (yup, over an hour not counting going through the pushing of phone buttons to get to a human) call.Moral of the story? Their customer service people can be very nice, but if they have incomplete or blatantly wrong information, they can’t do their job helping you, the customer. GE, Amazon, and indeed the web, is filled with people complaining about your incompetence. You have great ideas but fail to follow through (like with dropping the amazing line of super efficient water heaters because of a couple of initial manufacturing hiccups and making people buy an extra thing to stick on, like this unit, after the initial purchase, with very limited functionality). As a buyer, watch for a poor connection at the CAT5 junction (I now believe that to be at least part of the issue in my case - ymmv). Also, before you call customer service, play around with the reset button, holding it for a really long time if necessary. And for goodness sake, DON’T PLUG IT IN BEFORE YOU TURN OFF THE POWER TO YOUR APPLIANCE!!! The only thing that saved me was every time I plugged it in with the power on , the unit wasn’t connecting. And the customer service guy didn’t even know about it. You might get lucky like I did but I’d never risk it again.
