Shrinking violet
I was comparing this to Florian Violet jam which is difficult to receive in US. I tasted it in Gourdon and fell in love. But this substitution has no floral flavor. Only sugar and the texture is odd. Not like a fruit jam where one experiences bits of fruit, this has stems etc of the violet. Also the color in not appealing. It is brown.

Wonderful flavor!
This is sooooo good! It's so light and flavorful, it works on simple things like toast and more complex foods like duck. It's just lovely. I like to make violet flavored cake by substituting either this or violet syrup for half a cup of the sugar. It helps make a terrific frosting as well! This violet confit makes everything taste simply amazing:-)

Dont buy! No flavor!
By far the biggest waste of money. As a violet grower, jam and jelly maker and violet connoisseur, this confit had almost no flavor whatsoever. If you're expecting the true viola odorata flavor look elsewhere. This was simply sugar and water flavor. Very disappointed especially since its from France where they make the most flavorful Parma violet jellies and candies. This jelly doesn't belong on scones, it belongs in the trash!

Violets IN the jelly look like dead flies....ewww....
Well, this does have the lovely fragrance and flavor of violets. I had previously purchased a smaller sized jar of Violet confit of a different brand, this Favol brand was larger and was a few dollars less. The first brand I bought in the small jar was perfect. This Favols brand still had the Violet flowers suspended in the jelly. Looking in the jar it appeared the jelly was filled with dead flies! The first, more expensive jelly was strained and perfectly clear. I had to melt and strain the Favol jelly, more work, more mess, and part of the jelly was wasted down the sink. If I had presented my family with a Violet glazed peach galette with (what appears to be) dead flies they would have run screaming from the table. The violets present in the jelly just looked gross. I'll buy the more expensive one next time....less work and less of the "ick" factor.
