Prestige Medical Babinski Telescoping Reflex Hammer

This works quite well, haven't had the problem of the screw coming loose or anything like that. The only thing that happened that wasn't ideal was that the writing rubbed off of it, but it didn't matter much to me anyway. For a medical student who doesn't need to use a reflex hammer every day for the rest of their life, this is a great purchase, much better than the cheap orange hammer you would otherwise get. However, from what I read in other reviews, may not tolerate someone who uses their reflex hammers very regularly.

I purchase this telescoping Babinski hammer for a medical student that I know. This is a great quality product. The medical student was able to use this hammer for the entirety of her medical school career and it is still functioning well. The head of the hammer feels disproportionately heavier than the stick. She also loves that the hammer can be dissembled. She has the option to disassemble it and put it in her white coat pocket as she needs. One thing to watch out for is the pinprick portion of the hammer. The pointy edge is surprisingly extremely sharp. When she first got the hammer, she tried it out with a friend and almost stuck her finger. She also almost stuck her finger when she forgot to disassemble the hammer and brushed her hand against her coat pocket on the hospital wards. Please be extremely careful/gentle when using the pinprick with patients. You don't need to press hard to do the Babinski test. A light touch is enough with this pinprick to elicit a positive Babinski sign. Also if you don't completely disassemble the hammer to put it in your coat/scrub pocket, please be sure to at least remove the pinprick portion because you can easily get stuck. Please see my attached photos of the hammer - how long it is, what it looks like with all the parts disassembled and assembled completely. I have included a ruler and some coins to help you determine the size and if this hammer will fit in your white coat/scrub pockets.

I really like this hammer. It has a nice weight to it, it folds up compactly and can fit into a pen pocket, and it works really well. I like the pointy end for doing plantar response. The only bad thing is the screw comes loose every couple of days - even with light use - and has to be re-tightened. It makes the head floppy and doesn't stay in position. If I was using this on a neuro rotation it would probably loosen by noon. The screw is bad metal, so it's already stripping out and pretty soon I probably won't be able to tighten it anymore. I like it well enough though so I will keep using it, and maybe try to look for a replacement screw. I did order a different, more expensive one though as a backup, but it hasn't arrived yet so I can't compare.

Just got this product for use in making house calls. It folds up and easily fits in my doctors bag with no problems. It has a nice weight and heft to it. The quality is excellent. I would recommend it highly for any healthcare student or traveling healthcare profesional. Great price. I am very happy with my purchase.

I have yet to write a review on anything but I had to given the abysmal quality of a product I had received. The hammer's logo was clearly smudged upon opening. The head of the hammer was loose and would not stay in any position (parallel or perpendicular to the handle) . Another review says to use a screwdriver and tighten the one screw that keeps it in place. I would have done that if the screw wasn't already stripped (potentially due to original owner trying to fix it themself). Very disappointed. There are better retractable hammers out there, don't bother with this one.

I am a neurologist. The Babinski type telescopic hammer in general is convenient in design, easy to carry around, and one of my favorites for practical reasons. However, the rubber on this specific brand is thinner and harder than what I have encountered on other brands, with a less substantial weight. It is therefore somewhat unpleasant to tap on your own fingers while checking reflexes, and does not have a great feel. It still beats a taylor type. FYI, usually, these hammers break when the telescoping mechanism breaks, and the pieces of the handle fall apart. The head moves around, and can need a little getting used to. If u rotate the hammer 90 deg from the way the head folds, then it will stay in place while u use it.

When I first took this hammer out of its package, it felt a bit lighter than what I was used to. However, it works well when used, so I am happy with the lighter weight. The telescoping shaft and the folding end piece make it very easy to store. All in all, this is a great hammer.

I use this to beat the rigor out of my back. It feels very soothing when used like that, just light taps and percussions. I like that the handle collapses so it's nice for me to fit in my self-soothing kit, which is a small bag. It feels nice when lightly tapped against my stiff back. Not only does it help ease the stiffness out, but, when used in that manner, it helps with psychological stress.

Great product, portable and practical. Does exactly what you want it to, which is be extendable within a moment right before seeing a patient and folded immediately afterwards before slipping it back into your scrubs. Solid design, good thickness metal. Huge shout out to Dave for helping with the shipping, thanks to his help, we managed to change the destination from Canada to a local UK address I use and saved me almost a month in having to wait for it to arrive. 10/10 service.

High quality product

Perfect reflexes illicited. The only thing is, it's head moves on a screw, so you'll have to tighten it from time to time. Apart for that, a perfect tool.

Use it on the daily and it's great so far. Very ergonomic design.
