Exceptional Back Country Axe - Beautiful Tool to Add to your Kit!
I performed a lot of research to try to find a good backcountry multi-purpose axe for hunting, off-grid forestry, carving, etc. There are many contenders in this category, but Hults Bruk Akka Foresters Premium Outdoor Axe is just a little bit better and a little bit more in all categories. It's a few inches longer than most for longer swings and deeper cuts, has the curve to the handle for strike surety and shock absorption, and has the deep carving notch in the head for versatility and control while carving. The head is a little bit lighter, but that's the only drawback. So, I finally ordered it. In full transparency, I had to return the first one (100% Hassle-Free with Amazon Prime). There were clear quality control issues, including a warp in the axe head, which, for all you "Forged in Fire" fans out there, clearly indicated issues with the forging. Anyway, when the replacement arrived, it was like a whole different axe. Quality was supreme and the head was pin straight!!! I thought my eyes were playing tricks because the handle seemed thicker, smoother and the head was also thicker (there's a bad joke in there, but I'll leave that alone for now... :-)) so I weighed both. The replacement was 4 ounces heavier, definitely quality checked and beautiful! Tested and it split log-length firewood with one or two strikes, maximum, also razor sharp and carved amazingly. This is a Beautiful Axe to add to any backcountry kit!

This Swedish beauty bites deeper than a weasel on a chili dog – Heirloom quality!
The Hults Bruk Akka Forester's Premium Outdoor Axe showed up sharp enough to shave a catfish (didn't test, dogs objected). Hand forged in Sweden by gnomes or trolls with a touch of magic. That curved hickory handle fits my mitts like it was custom, and the 1.5 lb head with the convex grind chops through east Texas hardwood like a memaw on a rum cake. Cleared trails, felled saplings, split kindling for the fire pit, even limbed a fallen oak after a storm—bites deep, no sticking, and the balance makes it swing sweet as a prom-night backseat promise. Comes with a decent leather sheath that hooks on your belt better than my old one (no more thigh ambushes on the 4-wheeler). Hung it up in the shop, oiled the head, and it'll outlast me, the dogs, and probably the pond pump. If you're bucking briars, processing firewood, or just need something that'll make your buddies jealous around the campfire, grab this, it's right-sized for many "regular" jobs around the camp or deer blind. Not the right tool for serious felling, but large enough for limbing. Way better than big-box junk—feels like Thor's lighter cousin. Keeps the woods tamed and the Copperheads nervous. And yes, we have no bananas.

Very high quality and versatile.
I have based this review off a few factors. I purchased this product with my own money, and did extensive research for which axe will suit my needs-even considering many other high quality brands of axes. If my opinion changes with more use I will update this review. Note-each axe has a specific geometry for certain tasks. My research has led me to this one. It is important that you research what axe geometry and weight will suit your needs. First impressions: The quality of the axe feels much nicer than any axe I have found at local stores. The axe came with a nice leather sheath with a small tag of the axes origin(flag of Sweden) and a small folding pamphlet with some really interesting information about the origins of axes, and the proper care and use for your Hults Bruk Axe. The axe head has an extremely sharp polished edge. It balances nicely in the hands. You can tell the axe head is hand forged as it has many small forging imperfections(this is normal for a high quality hand forged axe.) This axe will accompany me on many remote wilderness trips. It will be one of the many tools I will rely on with my life.

perfect axe
I love this axe. It's my second Hulks Bruk axe and while a little pricey they're so worth it. I have many other axes I've picked up around garage sales and flea markets but I use the heck out of this. I usually leave it in my truck since it's the perfect size to go under the back seats. I've used it for splitting smaller pieces of wood, mostly pine for camp fires, and it excels at limbing up branches. It's not great for felling because of the size and weight, but I've used it to fell some smaller trees and even one with around 12-14 inch dimeter just to see how it did and while it got the job done I don't recommend doing it haha I love hiking and will usually bring this and a folding saw because not all the trails around where I live and maintained often and it's nice to be able to buck up smaller trees that fall across the trail. It's lightweight enough that I hardly notice it while hiking It came shaving sharp and maintained it's edge very well. The build quality is exactly what you'd expect from a name like Hults Bruk, I can't recommend this axe enough

The perfect back packing axe
I've had this axe for a couple months now and it has far surpassed what I originally intended it to do. It came RAZOR sharp with a mirror finish and it cuts so effortlessly that I gained a new respect for sharp tools in general. I became stuck in a snow bank during a winter storm in NY because of downed branches and trees. I had this axe in my camping bag and was able to clear multiple obstructions in just a matter of minutes. This little axe cleared a path for all the local traffic with minimal effort and zero appreciation. I've probably carried it a total of 40 miles through upstate wilderness and built a dozen or so fires with it. It's built to exacting standards and I won't go anywhere in the woods without it. 11/10 Granfors can eat it.

Beginners beware
I've been splitting wood for heat for a little over four years now, and split to stay afloat during the beginning of the pandemic. From that I can say that I want to love this hatchet. It's as sharp as a razor and as light as a feather. If you're not confident and don't have a lot of experience with this, get a cheaper tool to practice with. Pros: -Amazing steel -Nice strong handle -You can swing all day with how light it is Cons: -The edge is slightly too sharp for splitting wood with a 6" diameter, and because of that the edge will chip after tapping a stone from a bad swing -The handle being a bit long is going to cause an overswing with novice splitters -Without a wrap, the handle will roll in your hands causing a possible slip and possible serious injury For splitting, it's a good hatchet. It's not amazing, but it's good. The alternative hatchet for this is the Grandfors Bruk's version if youre looking for a similar quality at around the same price. If you're getting this for backpacking though, I think it perfect for that. Hopefully this helps someone out. It's as honest of a review as I can give.
