Coffee Table Book / Toddler Ripping Fun!
Pros: beautiful and fun to "read"Cons: Too fragile for children actually young enough to be learning colorsI gave this to my nephew, and my sister-in-law wanted to save it for when he was older ... because it was too pretty!I can understand her hesitance: This book really seems more of an art book than a book for a child learning colors. The pop-up "suprises" are very fragile. They are made of colorful glossy paper cut into intricate shapes (delicate animals, fish, snakes, etc), whereas books meant for toddlers are typically much sturdier. You could save it for the coffee table or for an older child (who, presumably, would already know his/her colors). Or you can give it to the favorite toddler in your life and accept that s/he will destroy it.So, of course, my nephew did destroy the pop-ups, though he knows his colors now. If the book had been less "pretty" we all might have had fewer qualms. I mean, after all, what really happens to all the other toddler books we buy? They just end up in a box somewhere eventually ... so why does it matter if one gets destroyed through use? The book was fun and served its purpose. If we want him to have it as a keepsake, we'll buy him another one when he gets older.

prompted my son's first "words"!!
My baby LOVES this book - we had a copy and he was a little too young for it still and thus tore it up a bit... but he loved it so much that I bought two more copies... we're on the second one and again, it's starting to get torn up (he's still just under a year) but I figure that's okay because the third one is on reserve to break out in another month or two. Why wouldn't I just wait you might ask?? Because this one is clearly his favorite and he's learned the sounds that go with all of the animals (the ones that have sounds... we just look at the red starfish)... so - technically his first word is "grrr" since he makes the noise every time we get to the tiger page... it's the first association he made of a sound to an object... does that count?? :) I digress - the point is - he loves the movement on the pages and to "do it" himself. Great book!

One of our Favorites!
This clever pop-up book is definitely one of my granddaughter's favorites. She asks for it almost every time she comes to grandma's house. Of course, it is not a book to leave alone with little hands because of the fragile, delicate pieces in the pop-ups, but with proper guidance and supervision the book can be enjoyed by almost any age. I taught my granddaughter early on to be "soft" and "be careful". Mostly, grandma works the pages and she just watches with wonder and amazement. Her favorite page is the chick that pops out of its egg. She also loves the clever snake that slides out from behind a box when you pull on the tab. The colors are vivid which makes it easy for children to understand the concept of color. Great book!

Great pop-up book!
I bought this when my son was a baby 25 years ago. I kept this beloved copy and shared with my grandson who reaches for it every time he visits. Was hesitant that purchasing a “new” copy would actually be “new” but it is! So happy with this purchase!

Compact, but still an amazing book
This is a great little book! But it is, in fact, a little book. It didn't have quite the wow-factor I thought just because the size was more compact than I expected. I even watched the video someone posted about this book, which was VERY helpful, yet somehow when it arrived, I was still surprised at how small it was. The pop-ups are great, it's a beautiful book, but others ended up being better fits for the special-needs child I am working with- he likes a BIG wow :)

Love it!
This is one of the best pop-up books and is very well made unlike others I've reviewed. Our 10 month old LOVES to open flaps and these are quite easy to open. She also likes to tear, so I have to be quick to move on the the next page =) The colors are bold and very beautiful and just pop out at you. Very beautifully done! I wish there were more pop-ups like this one since our daughter loves to interact with books and is always looking for a flap or something to touch or move. She loves this one over and over again until she pushes it away.

The colors are vibrant and the mechanism that activates the action is quite good for a paperback book
This book is a MUST. I had originally purchased this many years ago for my preschool class. It was 1 of the children's favorites. I then purchased it for my 1st grandchild and it has now become a staple in my home library. The colors are vibrant and the mechanism that activates the action response is quite good considering it is a paperback book. Of course you have to supervise. Highly recommend this book.

Beautiful book!
I absolutely love this book. It is just beautiful. My son is 16 months and he just loves it. What a creative and interesting way to teach kids their colors! I do not let him play with it on his own yet, as I'm worried he will tear up the pop ups, but we both really enjoy this book. It is so artistic looking and unlike other books that teach children colors, it is not confusing. I've found that some books about colors will have several other colors on the page so the kids get confused. This book is just beautiful and well worth the price.
