Worth the smell.
I've been using this soap for a few months now and it is the best soap i've ever used. I had read about how good pine tar soap is for your skin, curing and helping with many skin conditions among other things, so i decided to try some. I had had some sort of horrible "rash" or whatever,i'm not shure what it was,on my face, and i was afraid it was going to leave scars. For over a year i tried everything to get rid of it and nothing worked. I don't wear makeup or anything other than wash my face with soap. I was using an "all natural" soap that was really full of not so healthy things. I became concerned for my health and did alot of research. I had never realized that your skin absorbs the things you put on it as well as water. So all that not so healthy "all natural"soap was being absorbed into my skin. Thats when i found Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap. It wasn't full of those unhealthy ingredients and sounded great. So it arrived and i'm like `It smells like motor oil!`, so i didnt use it for a couple of weeks and still had that horrible rash on my face. Finally, i decided to get past the smell and use it. I liked it right away(besides the smell) it lathered up real nice, left my skin soft, cleaned really well, and didnt leave residue on your skin like some other soaps. You just feel light and clean and refreshed. That was worth it, to me, enough for the smell already. Then i noticed my rash was getting better. Then after about three weeks my rash was completely gone and left no scarring on my face, just clear smooth skin. That and it also cured a few other minor skin problems. That was months ago and i havent seen a single sign of that rash coming back, and i'm still using this soap. And after using the soap for a few months i have become use to the smell. It no longer smells like motor oil to me. It smells like a campfire in a pine forest, i actually like it now. Anyways, i never thought how important soap is for your health until now. Im never going back to that crap i use to use no matter how nice it smells, that is how they get you to buy it. So if your thinking about buying this soap then base your decision on health and not smell(although some people might like it). It was worth it for me. Please forgive my typing, my cat is trying to lay on my keyboard.

Love it !
When it first arrived, the first thing I noticed was it smelled like a campfire, I put it in my shower and then my whole bathroom smelled like a campfire. That did not bother me, but if you’re not a fan of that smell, this may not be for you. After using it the first time I really liked it, it lathers very well, which is important to me, it rinses well also and leaves a very clean filling on your skin.I have only been using it for a little over a week now and can tell you this will not be my only purchase. Another note about the campfire smell. It doesn’t make your skin smell like that after you’ve used it, and after it is used that first initial campfire, strength smell subsided greatly. My plan with the pine tar soap is to rotate it with beef tallow soap that I purchased at the same time. The pine tar soap will be more medicinal purposes and the beef tallow will have the moisturizer purpose.I definitely think it’s worth giving it a try , I personally love it.

Make showers great again, use Grandpa's Pine Tar Soap
I tried this soap after having it recommended to me by some friends on the internet as an alternative to modern soaps filled with harsh chemicals and xenoestrogens. I've used this soap for over a month now and I'm very pleased with the results. To start of with, the soap comes in a simple cardboard box. No messy plastic packaging, just the box and the bar of soap inside. On the front is the logo with Grandpa's face on it, on the back is the history and story of the soap, and on the left side is a simple easy to understand list of ingredients. No mile long list of chemicals here. Through the box, you can smell the powerful, clean scent of pine tar. I currently have several bars of this soap in my towel closet and it has the added bonus of acting as a natural air freshener. Every time I open the door, I'm greeted by this smell. I very pleased by this powerful, masculine scent, which I've come to like much better than the standard fruity and floral scents of other soaps. The soap leaves a slight scent of pine tar on your skin, this wears off after an hour, two at most. The woody scent smells like barbecue, this combined with the rich brown color sometimes makes me hungry when I look at it.The soap lathers white, just like the box states. With just a bit of water and some rubbing, you get plenty of suds to wash yourself with, no sodium lauryl sulfate needed. The stamp on the soap wears off within 2 or 3 showers and the bar shrinks noticeably quickly. I highly recommend getting a soap holster and sticking it as far from the shower head as possible, this will minimize any accidental soap loss and it will keep the soap from leaving residue on the tub or shower stall. This soap works well as a shaving agent, and I'm now using it for all my shaving. The only problem I've had with this is a slimy residue left on my face, but I think that this may be from not continuously lathering it. The soap leaves my skin feeling taut and smooth after washing with it, afterwards it still as soft as it ever wash when I used other brands of soap. The back of the package states that this soap is not tested on animals. Well, I decided to do some animal testing of my own. My dog has a habit of rolling in the grass and I have a suspicion that the spots she rolls in are spots that animals have peed in. I washed her with the soap she had no problem with it. It left her fur fluffy and soft and she is rolling around slightly less than she was. I think that this is because the pine tar scent is more natural and not as overpowering to her nose than other soaps. This soap is not cheap, 4 dollars a bar or slightly less is about the best is price you're going get for this. Before I wrote this, I specifically counted the number of days I could make a bar last. The most I've gotten was about 2 1/2 weeks out of this in a combination with a soap holster, though a small person might get 3 with careful use. I am very satisfied by the soap itself, and I'm very pleased to be using old school, simple, made in America soap.

Soap cleaning ability is great, Scent is Awful
The actual soap is great. It does a great job in the cleaning function, but man that smell is terrible. I bought this to replace some of the commercial gold bar soap, help with healing my psoriasis, and have been happy with the cleaning ability, but that pine tar smell, it stinks. I am going to use it since I bought it but won't buy this scent again.Cost was good. Moisture level is pretty dry. Longevity is unknown at this time.

High quality soap
Rinses off very well leaving no residue and a very clean feeling. This is a high quality soap. The scent was surprisingly smoky, but I like it. It smells stronger in the shower than on your person afterward. Ordered for a third time today.
