Wow! Barbershop Results - First Try
I have tried many hair clippers to cut my own hair including one from this brand.....all were inferior to this clipper. The last one I bought was shaped so that it fit in the palm of the hand specially designed to make it easier for cutting your own hair. It didn’t really work that well and the battery died after not that much time. This time I had three major qualities in a clipper in mind that I was looking for. A professional version of whatever make to be purchased, one that plugs in to a power outlet without batteries in it and it needed to be durable, not toy like. This one was a bit pricey but, with all of the accessories included, I decided to order one. When the package arrived, I was eager to open it and see what I got. I had read reviews that said there was evidence of hair clippings in the package. In the write-up for this product Whal specifically stated that, during production, the clippers are tested by cutting artificial fibers (not hair). I was expecting to see some of this when I opened the package but whoever cleaned it up before packaging it did a good job because I didn’t find any fiber clippings within and I wouldn’t have cared if I had, I like the idea that they test the product on hair like artificial fibers and adjust it while doing so. My initial impression before using the two clippers were that they are made solidly with longevity of the clippers in mind and that includes the power cord of the larger clipper.I took inventory of what I had received and I specifically noted that the lowest guide was ½ not 0 as expected. The ½ guide is for a 1/16" cut. I went out on the Internet looking to see what a 0 guide was. I found out that some manufacturers label the 0 guide differently but that the length of cut is the shortest of the guides and specifically it cuts to a length of 1/16". Mystery solved.I was eager to give myself my first haircut with this fantastic looking haircut set. I started out thinking that I would give myself a typical men's haircut that you would get at a barbershop. Prior to this I would give myself a haircut that was skin tight on the sides and finished it with a shaver specifically made for the scalp. I didn’t think that I could do a good taper on the sides and experienced many failures in doing so in the past. With this new barber set, I was determined to try for my first haircut with it. I did read the guide to hair cutting provided with the kit. It explains the process and was very helpful. They explained the use of the taper (diagonal) guides for use on the sides of the head around the ears. I determined that they wouldn’t work for me because I wanted a close cut on the sides and then taper.I started cutting with the 1/16" guide and then increased the guides going towards the top ending with the 3/8" guide for the taper. This created a layer cake look so I needed to blend the lengths to create the taper. I started at the bottom using the 1/16" guide and a rocking motion to create the taper. I used the next size up to taper the next boarder using the same motion to continue the taper doing the same process with each guide. The results were pretty darn good. I used the scissors in the kit to adjust the length of the top grasping hair between the fore finger and middle finger and cutting across the top and angled the parted side a little shorter than the other side also cutting longer in the front shorter towards the back. When I got done I was extremely happy with the first experience. The clippers cut without grabbing and the scissors cut cleanly. I couldn’t have expected better performance because I thought this was as good as I could get. My wife was very impressed with the haircut asking me if I had gone to the barbershop.I have given myself several haircuts now and am still very impressed with the quality of this set of barber tools. Each time I gain a little confidence and I’m able to keep the hair looking good. Bottom line – would I recommend this product? – absolutely. It was well worth the price. I hope that this helps you to decide what it is that you are looking for in haircutting.

Upgraded my basic Wahl kit
I've been cutting my husband's hair for 14 years, and just bought this set to replace the basic wahl clipper set we've had that entire time. The plastic guards' clips were snapping off and the whole set was generally tired. I compared a lot of sets before I bought this one, and it seems perfect so far. I really like how the guards have metal clips, since our clips had been falling apart, and the storage case with a slot for everything will keep them nicer longer. We had a cheap AA battery trimmer, and this feels like a huge upgrade. The clipper seems functionally the same as our old one except with apparently higher quality materials. I love how this set came with a cape too. In short this set is an upgrade of my tired old kit in all the right ways.

good out of the box
This clipper was perfect right out of the box. I did not have to adjust anything. The blades were adjusted properly and the unit ran with a soft hum. Cut hair fine, with no snagging or pulling. The parts that limit hair length (guards) are sturdy, and the steel clip holds them securely to the clipper. Much better than the plastic clips on many units that eventually break off.The neat box that holds all the guards, etc is really well designed and fits perfectly into the outer case along with the clippers. There is no plastic hinge on the outer case that commonly would break. Instead it hinges on the zipper fabric which is like Cordura and very tough, yet flexible. The little trimmer is not even close to the quality of the full size clipper. It works, but needs to be treated gently. Its blade actuating mechanism is flimsy. Do not take it apart to see what is inside. I did and had a hard time getting it all put back together.I read all the reviews showing badly adjusted blades, broken teeth, and even hair clippings around the blades. So I was kind of nervous about Wahl's quality control. I didn't need to be. There were no fibers (hairs) anywhere on the units, and whoever did the final assembly did it conscientiously and well.If you read the blurbs from Wahl you will see that they test each clipper on some kind of fibrous material to make sure it cuts properly. They say they try to clean off any fibers and that they do not sell any used clippers. If you experience any hair in the blades after use it is a simple thing to clean off with the brush. If that doesn't do it a little compressed air will easily blow out the blades.Maybe I was just lucky about the condition, but I was more willing to trust an old company like Wahl than some foreign outfit. So I am pleased with the build quality and saw nothing to complain about.

Feeling conflicted
There are really 3 products to review, the clipper, the trimmer, and the case/accessories.The clipper is awesome. It's a solid beast that I had very little issues with. Gave a great cut, wasn't too noisy, and didn't snag. It does vibrate a lot, but it's a solid product with a good motor so I'll take it over something stingy. The trimmer is a piece of garbage. It and all of its accessories are made in China and the quality reflects. It feels like a dollar store trimmer compared to the clipper counterpart. It's whiney and constantly snags on hairs. I will not be using it again and will just stick with the clipper if I keep this product. The case and accessories are solid (except the aforementioned clipper accessories). Everything fits nice and snug, each attachment for the clipper has it's own slot along with the scissors, brush, and oil. It fits in a solid carrying case.Since this bundle included a few products and some of them are garbage, combined with the false advertisement of these products all being made in America, I am leaning towards returning this and getting another clipper or brand. I'm not a fan of being ripped off and lied to, even though the clipper itself would have been worth the money alone.Update: I contacted Wahl support and they've resolved my issues.
