Drum defective - split less than 3 years after purchase *Updated
Updated:After additional contacts with LG, they agreed to replace the drum free of charge. The dryer is now working properly again. I am glad to have my dryer back. However, I don't think it should have taken multiple phone calls and 18 days to resolve.Original review:We were initially pleased with this dryer - it functioned as advertised. However, it recently started making a loud banging noise with every turn of the drum (as if there was a heavy shoe in the dryer). After consulting the internet, I opened it up and found that the drum had started to split along the welded seam (picture attached). The owner's manual states that the drum is under a parts warranty for 10 years. OK, called LG and asked for a new drum. However... they will not send a part directly to me. They can only send it to an authorized repair technician. Long story short, it will cost a minimum of $289 for diagnosis/repair of the drum (that I can already see is defective and can replace myself). After 9 days and several rounds of calls to LG (for a combined 2 hours, 20 minutes and counting), I have not been able to speak to anyone who can authorize either sending the part to me or covering the cost of the diagnosis/repair, even though it is clearly a defective part. Extremely frustrating to be spending this much time and energy on the problem, and still have no working dryer, during the holiday season.

LG has shown bad faith regarding the warranty
The media could not be loaded. I purchased the LG dryer in November and it stopped working properly in May. 3 times they came but never actually touched the dryer: the first time they claimed they needed to be 2 people to fix it. The second time (same first tech plus a helper) they claimed they couldnโt do a thing due to the fact that it was hooked to the gas line. So we disconnected and unstalled the dryer so they could come and fix it. But the third time it was a new tech and he claimed he could not diagnose the dryer due to the fact it was unhooked! Weโll done LG: best at gas lighting customers!
