I've had a large custom barn door installed in my bedroom for almost 5 years. The door measures 100" tall and 48" wide and is made of solid wood. The door separates our bathroom from our bedroom, and my wife and I use it almost daily. My wife rarely opened the door all the way, since she didn't like to hear it "clunk" against the stopper when fully opened. Therefore, the door would always stick out into the opening about 3 to 4 inches and it was a pet peeve for me! I constantly would push the thing all the way open and it was just an unspoken internal battle amongst ourselves (after 28 years, you learn to not actually mention meaningless things anymore). Anyway, when I found this soft close mechanism at a reasonable price that looked extremely easy to install...I had to give it a shot. Wow, wow, wow! Super easy to install and works EXACTLY as advertised (even on my extremely large barn door). I honestly don't know how much my door weighs, but this thing has no issues whatsoever...even when pushing it open relatively quickly. I've attached a video for reference of it in action. I initially installed both sides of the mechanism (opening and closing). However, last night (the 1st night it was installed) my wife went to bed about 30 minutes before me. When I was ready for bed, I turned off the bathroom lights and always try to open the door quietly, as to try and not wake her up unnecessarily. The soft close mechanism does such a good job of keeping the door closed, I had to use a fair amount of force to get the door to begin to open. This made a decent amount of noise (in the middle of the night) and woke up my wife. Once I pushed the door open, the opening side of the mechanism kicked in and gently pulled the door completely open without any excessive noise. So, I think for my setup, I'm going to remove the actuator on the "closing" side of the door so that we can quietly open the door in the night without using any excessive force. For me, I'm most happy about the door always staying fully open. When closing the door at night, it's not an issue if it makes a little bit of noise (since no one is asleep yet). For the simplicity of the install, the functionality of the product, the extremely reasonable price & helping to eliminate a small pet peeve I have...it's ABSOLUTELY 5 stars for me!! Hope this review helps!

We are very pleased with this, when our soft close no longer worked on our barn door and the manufacturer no longer sold the door, we were devastated. The manufacturer suggested this soft close mechanism, we have installed it and used it for a couple of months now, we are very happy.

I have a heavy set of barn doors in my office that gets opened and closed several times a day. It takes a solid 10 seconds of concentration to close them, as if it hits the existing stop with too much force it'll bounce back the other way. Well no more! This genius little device bolts on, and slowly and gently pulls the door up against the stop. You can literally fling the door open or closed, and it will glide gently to a stop. Install was simple, just look at the cutaway photo on the product listing, and do exactly that. You'll need to attach the small angle brackets which is a slight pain (not easy to get the screw in there) but that's really the worst of it. Here's my super-fast summary instructions: * Attach the little angle brackets to the cartridge, one on each end so it looks like the photo. You'll end up with each bracket looking like a mirror image of the other (one for left, one for right.) * Bolt it onto the rail somewhere over where the door lands in the closed position, and the open position. * Open / Close the door to where it needs to land, then place the receiver bracket into the notch. Use screws to attach it to the top. If there's a big distance between the receiver bracket and the notch, use the plastic shims underneath / adjust the bracket up and down with the little hex bolt. That's it. Legit. It does its job well, it's inexpensive, and really well engineered.

It works well. They should have better instructions. I figured It out finally after thinking about it. It works well but it is plastic and some metal mix construction. Will see how long it lasts.

Only had it installed a few days as of Apr-17-2025, but it works really well. I got the lightweight version for my 70 lbs sliding barn door and it works perfect for that weight. Catches the door 3-4 inches before fully opened or closed and gently pulls it the rest of the way. Operation is quite other than the click when it catches the door (louder if the door is moving fast). Installation was relatively easy if you're hand at all. Instructions are not very detailed, but you'll figure it out. Fit was perfect for my barn door and railing bought from Menards.
