Having a fancy disposal with a magnetic switch seemed like a clever way to market a product. However, most of my friends who chose to install this type of switch were not made aware of the shortcomings of the magnetic stopper. It can't be washed in a dishwasher. It will gradually let moisture wick into the area around the magnets, and when it is hard to insert it in the disposal, it is time to get a new stopper.I could find no hardware store that carried the magnetic stopper. A neighbor gave up and replaced the entire disposal. I saved a $300 plumbing bill by simply ordering a replacement stopper. It is a perfect match for the original, and is the perfect answer.

We thought our garbage disposal was broken and might need to be replaced, but before trying that, I was able to find this on Amazon - it was the exact part that we needed and it turned out it was the stopper that was broken, not the garbage disposal.
