A lovely story about a shy wolf who became a leader
“True Stories of Animal Heroes: Onyx, The Wolf who Found a new Way to be a Leader” is part of a new series of books showing that one does not have to wear a cape or even be human to be a hero. Children will like this one about a wolf pup. They will like the story and the colorful pages, and they will be inspired to be heroes themselves. Onyx was small and shy. But he found a way that affected all the wolves in the area. This is a true story of Yellowstone Park.

for young animal lovers
The illustrator of this title clearly loves and closely observes nature. The pages are a delight to view. The book tells the story of the wolves who were reintroduced to Yellowstone National Park after a number of years of absence. In particular. readers get to know Onyx, a somewhat timid wolf when the story opens but…as the author notes, he had his own way of thinking. Watch what happens when Onyx gets to know Bravo, a wolf from a family not his own and look to see what Bravo does when he becomes a grown wolf. This title should be enjoyed by young animal lovers and conservationists. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.

My kiddos enjoyed the story of Onyx!
At ages 8 & 5, my kiddos are a bit older than the target age for Onyx by Vita Murrow and Anneli Bray. I ordered it for them anyway and, happily, they loved the book. The story of Onyx and how he acted is inspiring and easily translates to a lesson about how to treat ourselves and others, if the caretaker wants to talk about the story in that direction.Otherwise, Onyx: The Wolf Who Found a New Way to be a Leader is perfectly entertaining with its narrative and beautiful illustrations. A page spread in the back provides information on the story that inspired the book and features photos of wolves.Onyx is a sturdy, hardcover children’s book that I expect to last for a long time in my kiddos home library. I am pleased with the product.Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this product via the Amazon Vine program. All opinions in this review are my own.

beautiful book engaging story
I enjoy sharing beautiful book with our grandkids. I feel that introducing them at an early age to the pleasures of reading and the things you can learn will last them a lifetime. When I say this is a beautiful book I do mean that - the paper, hardcover, drawings are all top notch. The story about wolves reintroduced to Yellowstone and how the life of one wolf cub in particular is told in this story. My grandkids are engaged with the book and it prompted many questions about wolves. My experience has been that young children are especially empathetic towards animals so they had many questions about why hunters took the father wolf away. The story follows their lives. There is information in the back of the book for further learning. Excellent book.

Unique Animal Hero
True Stories of Animal Heroes: Onyx by Vita Murrow is the second story in this series that I have read. Much like the first it highlights an animal who is a hero in a unique way. Onyx is one of the wolves relocated back into Yellowstone National Park. He grows up to be a kinder alpha leader than what is expected in the wolf world. I found his story to be quite interesting as well as my granddaughters did.The text is such that primary grade students can read it without much trouble. The third grader in my family had no problem at all but the kindergartener just enjoyed having to read to her. The text is clear and concise so that comprehension is easy. I liked the illustrations for the most part but found a couple of pages so dark that it made the reading of it a bit difficult. I will say I have only read the digital ARXC so the print copy may be just fine but still it lost a star for that from me.As always we all enjoyed the photographs and real information at the end of the book. It is always a favorite part of the book. The publisher through Net Galley provided a digital ARC. I have voluntarily decided to read and review, giving my personal opinions and thoughts.

Sweet story about changing opinions
Onyx was the run of the litter, so he was picked on for being small. When it came time to relocate to a new park, Onyx finds a female lone wolf who already has pups. The two of them match together and he becomes a step-father to her pups. He teaches them and ends up changing the way that wolves in his area work and react. This again is a very nice story that teaches a lot of life lessons, especially how you shouldn't judge worth by size and that one person (or animal in this case) can change the world. My daughter liked the koala bear story more, but these are enjoyable children's books overall. I hope they continue doing them.

Okay book about the reintroduction of wolves to the environment
I've heard many stories about the importance of the food chain and things not being disrupted. It's all very complicated but certain animals eat certain animals eat certain bugs which affects the flowing of the rivers - crazy stuff like that. This book tries to go a bit further and incorporate Onyx's behavior as intentional instead. of instinctual and I didn't really buy it or think that the story made perfect logical sense. Overall it's a cute book for a four year old to enjoy but it's pretty surface level information (of course). There are other books in this series about animal heroes, but honestly it's a bit pricey and I think some better options could be found.

Great concept, lovely illustrations but confused..
I love the idea and concept of this book, it is beautifully illustrated and nicely produced. However the author has tried to tell a factual story and teach children a moral at the same time. Consequently, it does not flow or make a lot of sense and the children are not engaged (4,6). The best bit is probably the page of facts at the back.
