Simplicity 1338 Tote Bag, Backpack, and Coin Purse Sewing Pattern, One Size

I used this pattern to teach my 13-year old grandson how to sew. (We made the backpack.) The instructions are a little more advanced than what a beginner should have, but we managed to get through it. The backpack turned out pretty cute and he loves it.

Not what I really wanted, but that is my own fault!! I should have checked it out better!

I use this all the time, whenever it gets old I just buy a new one

I made 4 tote bags from the Style B. I used cut up blue jeans for the body of the bag and applied a cross stitch pattern the grandkids did, and lined with complimentary fabric. The only hard part I encountered was trying to turn the bag after attaching the lining!!!! I applied iron on pellon to the back of the blue jean fabric - which made it REALLY hard to turn - so I had to just use bias tape to attach the lining to the body of the bag. AND the end result - was fantastic. I like the firm feel of the body of the bag! It really stands up on it's own. I did not install the magnet closure. (not missed)

This a good pattern and so many possibilities.

Been using simplicity patterns for 60 years. They are easy to use and always great sewing directions.
