Review: Amazing Book. - I am educating myself to become running coach and also was to learn more about running. This book is amazing. A lot to learn and a lot to read. It take times to learn all the shortcuts but once you get them, you will realise how easy amd how great the book is. Fully recommend it. Review: A good read, but gets a bit heavy at times. - I’m not saying that this will make you a better runner, but it will probably tell you why you’re not LOL. I think running ‘science’ is full of fads, but there is plenty of time-honoured info in here.

Great running book
Good detailed running although you can get a lot of the same information on YouTube videos. The only main difference is that you get more specific training programmes with the book, so recommended if you really are into running and want to get better. Would say the training programmes are not casual runner and requires you to have had a good base of running.

Very good book - some excellent technical information on how to train for , and sustain higher performances at all common distances. A bit more technical than Hal Higdon's 'Marathon' but very readable nevertheless.

Wouldn't be my first recommendation for aspiring runners
Daniels is one of the world's great run coaches, who has worked with many top class athletes. However, despite his credentials, this book simply did not connect with or inspire me. The whole Daniels approach is based around the famous VDOT formula, which is a simple number which approximates your running ability, and you should use your VDOT to calculate the ideal pace of your various workouts (from "easy" pace to "pep"). Unfortunately I found the book far too regimented in prescribed training, filled with pages of sample training plans instead of giving you the tools and implanting the mindset to be creative and devise your own training plan to suit you the best. Instead, the book leans heavily on cookie-cutter plans that say "do this on this day, do that on the next day... 3 miles warmup at this pace, 1x3 reps (or was it intervals?), 2 miles recovery, more reps, then back to easy to the warmdown"... WHO THE HELL CAN REMEMBER THAT? It doesn't teach the athlete to become their own coach or to think about how best they can fit their own training in and around their own life, nor does it even touch upon the topic of diet and good health practices which are important preconditions of being the best athlete you can be. Daniels' approach may work for some, and is perhaps more applicable if you are knocking on the door of the elite, but a far more holistic approach that I would recommend would be Phil Maffetone's Big Book of Endurance Training & Racing.
