Can you describe what kind of games you can build with this? How does one "play" the game once it is built?

There are 20 actual games that you could select and play with the micro-controller. They are pretty simple games though, such as having two 6's after random draws and getting a winning sound or a colorful spin.

suitable for girls 8 and 12?

Well, I have twin 8 yr. old granddaughters, and a 12 yr old grandson, and they liked them. I think it would be a wonderful gift. And nice for the girls to have something besides dolls to play with. Our girls need to learn to be engineers and architects and designers.
