Am I correct to assume you can open/close manually from the inside of the door by turning the august smart lock? (Not from the outside with a key)

Accepted Answer

Yes you can turn the August Lock manually to latch/unlatch the deadbolt manually from the inside.  Additionally, you can use your existing key from the outside.

does the second generation need the august connect for monitoring it away from home?

The docs say that it will work with a 3rd gen Apple TV. That's just not true---it doesn't. It does seem to work with the 4th Gen ATV, but you loose a lot of the reporting, etc, claimed by the Connect. That is, the ATV only tells you if the lock is open or closed. It doesn't tell you who opened it or when they opened it. The Connect isn't a viable solution, either. It doesn't really work at all. It connects poorly, and will actually control the lock remotely maybe 5% of the time so it's not a viable choice if you want to operate the lock remotely. So, practically speaking, given that none of the possible bridge devices actually work well enough to be useful, you cannot monitory away from home.

Does it work with android phones? i have a galaxy s6,  and will it work with only a wireless router for remote control?

The app works with Android phones. However, the reviews on the play store are abysmal because features like Auto Unlock simply do not work. This is no longer a new product and it is clear that August is not devoting the necessary resources to fix this product. Android support should be marked with an asterisk as it is not full support.
