Will the ice cream maker work with 4.5 mixers?

Bonnie, this ice cream maker fits all Stand Mixers except  KSM6573C and KSM7 models (the professional 7-8qt models).  The 4.5 mixers are compatible.

Question 2

The blue ice inside the bowl has a limited life? I bought a Cuisinart ice cream maker and it stopped freeze after a couple of years of use.

Mirtha, I contacted Cuisinart (call them toll free: 800-726-0190) and customer service stated their PATENTED 'blue ice' formula does stop freezing, (go bad) and the cause is unknown. If you have used it for 2 years, you still have a year warranty remaining (they come with 3 year warranty) so call & give them the serial # & model # and they will replace it - free.

Question 3

Does it come with a lid/cover for the freezer bowl?

No, it does not.  But you don't need a lid or cover since the ice cream is not meant to be stored in the bowl.  I found some paper pint containers from an online kitchen supply store, but you can use tupperware, too.

Question 4

Do you need a bowl lifter for the K45SS to use this attachment? And is there a bowl lifter for this model? If so what would be the benefits?

We have a model 45. I think that is the same as the K45SS, but I may be wrong. The model we have does not have a bowl lifter. Instead the bowl fastens to the base with a set of cams. For our model no bowl lifter is needed as the bowl is small enough to be easily lifted by hand. To use the ice cream maker simply rotate the attachment to the base so the cams engage. The ice cream maker is designed to fit several different models. On the model 45, no adapter is needed (one comes with the ice cream maker), and the two projections on the sides of the bowl are not used, and do not prevent the use of the ice cream maker. They are for use on a larger model mixer that has a bowl lifter.Hope this helps.
