Viking Solutions Kayak Rack

These work absolutely perfect on our truck. We've taken the one and off several times because we have a cover we use when we're not kayaking mostly in the cooler weather. They've been a lifesaver and so much better than anything else we've tried. I feel that they are a good price for what they are well made and sturdy! That would suggest to a friend always.

Easy setup/ install, 45min or so. 8ft easy to get up with 1 person, 10ft possible, but easier with 2. Rack is a little loose before kayaks and tie downs are installed, but drove 200 miles with no problems. Would definitely recommend!

I wanted to wait for a kayak trip before my review. Just did a three day trip (350 miles driving each way), and pretty pleased. Pro's. 1- Design really is excellent for the cost. Even though I bought this over a ladder style, hoping it would fit in may garage w/o removal (It didn't), it really is easy enough to take on and off with simple hand tools. 2- Kayak (or misc) layout is great. I only needed it for one (Out Town PDL 106), but it should handle two (and their wight) ok. I ended up mounting three fishing pole setups in the middle space for my trip as well, and it worked out awesome. Cons. 1- The Phillips hardware provided to mount the rack tot he truck bed is a poor choice. I ended up replacing them with cap screws, with a much better result. I can safely and easily install and remove the rack without worrying about stripping the screws out. 2- the rubber pads, though work well, to not stay seated well unless you modify (I adhered them down with silicone adhesive and it seems better). Also, read the directions on these and install BEFORE assembly (I didn't but made it work with a couple busted knuckles).

I have a pair of Pelican Mustang 100x kayaks and this thing is terrible for them. I guess it's something to do with the shape of the kayaks but sitting them on this rack, in order to strap them down good enough to prevent them from moving it dents the hull of the kayak in because the pressure point is concentrated to much in one location. The parts on the bottom that the hull sits down on is just not wide enough for these kayaks. I tried turning the kayaks over and seeing if that would help but that doesn't work either because there is no way to position the kayak where the cockpit is not over one of the mounts, so it doesn't have any support in that position.

Product gets job done!!! Pros. Plenty of tie down hooks. Painted very well. Quality rubber. It does what it was designed to do. Con’s. Would like to see two bolts holding the adjustable bar instead of just one, the smaller insert at the elbow isn’t a very tight fit so with one bolt it will rattle with no kayaks loaded. Would like to see larger rubber pads with three hold down points instead of two. This allows the rubber to slip on the center of bar if kayak slides. FYI my truck is 2016 Chevrolet Colorado the adjustment is at its smallest setting I would not recommend any smaller vehicles to use this. I wouldn’t pay more than what it was purchased for around $230 with coupon.

Worked great! The screws for the clamps sucked but easy fix just go to Lowe's and get some deadbolts! Also screws are not labeled so kinda guessing when building.

The racks install easily once they are assembled. It is perfect for me since there is enough clearance to turn my travel trailer. No drilling is also a plus. I just drove over 300 miles with the kayaks loaded and had no issues whatsoever. The straps that came with my kit were adequate for the job. Very sturdy and worth the price.

Overall, this is very sturdy, well put together, and holds kayaks well. The only downfall is that if your bed has a rail system, the brackets don’t work right. Mine can only be attached with one bracket in the holder for the tonneau cover. It holds it but I haven’t tested it at speed yet. I’ll edit when I do tomorrow. It would have been nice to have that mentioned in the product description. Now it’s been two months and I can’t return it. Crossing my fingers that it holds!

This kayak rake for my pick up is great! Easy to assemble and install. Comes with 6 ratchet straps but you will need more. I used 4 just to anchor each side of the 2-piece rack to the truck bed. They are firm with the screwed clamps, but the ratchet straps are a good safety back up. Makes loading the kayaks easier and once strapped down you don’t feel a thing while driving. Those kayaks are not moving. They are SOLID! Makes it possible to tow my trailer as they don’t have to hang out the back of my short-box truck, they can extend over the cab instead! Very pleased!! Only thing to check is if you have a tonneau cover. If yours has rails on the sides that run inside the box opposed to ON the box sides, you may have to remove the tonneau cover assembly.

For the price this thing works amazing. We used it to haul 2 kayaks 100s of kms and didn’t have an issue. Easy to install as well
